    Default Nick Fury Appreciation 2019

    Well it’s 2019, might as well lay down the gauntlet on the one and only Fury, Agent of Shield and Howling Commando.

    I can't remember where I first saw Fury, but it was around this time and I really enjoyed playing him in the Sega port of the Punisher Arcade game. From there, I just loved seeing him pop up in random comics for ages. I miss him.

    Nick Fury Agent of Shield #9 Feb 1969
    "The Name Of The Game Is... Hate!"
    While at a doctor's appointment, Fury is the target of an assassin, who misses him but hits the doctor instead;
    Escaping via aircraft, Fury recognizes the "H" symbol and realizes The Hate-Monger is somehow back in action;

    After rendezvousing at the Heli-Carrier, Fury, Dugan, Jimmy & Gabe pursue the aircraft & wind up in an aerial dogfight;
    After shooting down the enemy jet, they follow, only to find themselves in a bizarre prehistoric landscape filled with dinosaurs!;
    Fury plunges into a gigantic underground laboratory and comes face-to-face with The Hate-Monger,

    who reveals the other SHIELD agents are really victims of the "Psychotron," which is creating illusions in their minds;
    The Hate-Monger plans to use nuclear missiles to "deal a death-blow to every nation on Earth,"
    and also shows him a "Brain-Bank" chamber containing the "active brains" of all his former advisers
    and associates, whose mentalities live on even while their bodies are long dead.

    Script by Gary Friedrich (plot, dialogue) and Frank Springer (plot), art by Frank Springer

    Loved the episode where the character was introduced in Spider-Man TAS.
    Likewise, the way Captain America and the Red Skull were introduced and man was I surprised the way Electro was introduced in Spider-Man TAS.

    Nick Fury Agent of Shield #10 Mar 1969
    "Twas the Night Before Christmas"
    December 24, 1968: Fury heads home, thinking how for some, holidays "can only hold the empty void left by a tragic past";
    After a mugging attempt in which he sent his attackers packing,

    Fury arrives at his apartment and is surprised by Laura Brown, who tells him since neither
    one of them have families she thought it would be a good idea to spend the holiday together;
    Their celebrations are interrupted by a "condition red" alert;
    Aboard the Heli-Carrier, Fury finds Sitwell, who was given two days off for the holidays by Tony Stark, and decided to drop by to see if he could be useful;
    They've intercepted a transmission from The Hate-Monger, who intends to drop a "Germ Bomb" to wipe out the entire population of NYC!;
    Fury takes the "Self-Orbiting Attack Craft" to a huge scientific complex orbiting the Earth;
    Fury tackles a large number of The Hate-Monger's men single-handed,

    but is eventually brought down by numbers;
    On awakening, he finds himself imprisoned inside the capsule containing the "Germ Bomb,"

    as The Hate-Monger explains that once NYC has been wiped out, it will "set all the nations of the world against each other."

    Script by Gary Friedrich (plot, dialogue) and Frank Springer (plot),
    pencils by Frank Springer and Barry Smith (page 2 except for panel 1, all of page 3 and the first two panels of page 4),
    inks by Johnny Craig
