It looks like fur to me. I like it more for a playable character than an all white coat. Ties into the current Loki look.

That's the thing, I'm not sure he can age. In AoA, King Loki was revealed to really just look like normal Loki. He was wearing a mask to make himself look older.

I think that was more metaphorical than revealing that he didn't actually age. Things got weird at the end there.

But isn't Loki sort of defined by metaphor snd other litersry conventions? Or at least agin isn't the same as it is for most other things, even Asgardians.

I mean, even Loki the Necro god seemed pretty young.

to a degree, but not to the extent that was going on at the end of Agent of Asgard. It's not like the kinds of thing it showed were common occurrences before or after that. The only thing that makes sense for the ending of Agent of Asgard, given everything that followed, is that with the universe ending, the rules of reality were breaking down, allowing weird things to happen and the rules of metaphor to leak in temporarily much more strongly than before. Those last few issues have to be kinda taken with a grain of salt in terms of what they show.

I am sure Loki probably does age, even if he can hide it with illusions or similar. Or, you never know, he could have actually died when the world ended, and then got reincarnated again, so he was starting from square one again.

I just feel like how he looks is heavily influenced by how he feels. It's part of why he was so unattractive throughout his history. The other reason was because of constantly getting beaten up and not having access to the magic apples.

Maybe he does age, but I do think that if this mystery in the book is Loki, then he likely looks the way he does because that's how he thinks he should look if he's taking over from Thor.

Also, does anyone else just love hownLoki looks in the book? Like, he is really good looking, but he looks like old!Loki; longer face, pointed chin, the nose and all that. But he doesn't look exactly like Tom Hiddleston, which is actually sort of what I was worried about.

He may be a god, but he is still a frost giant. They age, so he ages. He may be able to hide it with magic, and him being a god may slow it down, but he ages. That is just the way I see it. The other times his appearance changed, there were circumstances surrounding it, he took over Sif's body, he died and came back to life, Wiccan had to do magic to age him up, etc. It wasn't a case of him just appearing as he felt, even if he can do magic to accomplish that if he wants, that shapeshifting aspect is a relatively recent addition, most of the time his changes in appearance had an explanation.

And yeah I think the role likely affects his appearance some, but in a subtle way, that he has no control over. I think it's more that the cosmic forces that govern the roles have determined a 'thor' should look a certain way, more or less, rather than the role holder.

I would like if he looked just a little less "perfect", a little more ragged, but I definitely like this look better than AoA.

I think he was supposed to look young and attractive when he first appeared in comics (there's a panel from early 60s in which a lady thinks of him as 'dashing', and he looks quite young) but over the years, the artists tended to show him older, mostly average looking or sometimes plain ugly. But he didn't start out that way.

As a god who lives for millenniums, I see Loki and the Asgardians just aging super slowly. Plus, Loki being of Jotunheim decent, may make him age even more slowly. And he can casts illusions, so if he was more ragged or aged, he could easily make himself appear younger if he wanted. I like his current look.

Raye, great Lady Loki!! The outfit looks incredible.

As for other adversaries for Loki, here's a short list I pulled together while thinking of some (some were previously mentioned):

    Dr. Doom
    Kang
    Mephisto
    Hela
    Thanos
    Morgan Le Fey
    Enchantress
    Sentry

I was thinking of those that don't have strong ties to another character or ones that Loki has had run-ins with before. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing Morgan Le Fey brought to the present and become a strong adversary for him. She isn't used often and mostly in the past. It could give a whole new dynamic to her character and against Loki. Kang could be interesting too, seeing Loki manipulate him through his words.

I think if anything being a frost giant would make him age more quickly... I get the impression that of all the races in the 10 realms, the Aesir or Vanir live the longest, and all the rest fall somewhere below them, with humans being the shortest lived of the sentient races. Still, I think that when he got bumped up to god status when Odin adopted him, it boosted his lifespan to being in the same ballpark as the other gods. plus, you know, he can do magic. But if Odin, Thor etc. age, albeit very slowly, I just don't see why Loki would be exempt. Being able to hide his age with an illusion or shapeshifting isn't the same as not aging, he'd still have a default form under there that is aging.

Morgan Le Fay could be really interesting. She's in Marvel Rising right now, but that's just a mini, so she could easily be brought into Loki's sphere. And yeah, I don't think she's really attached to a character as part of their usual rogues gallery, so she's free for Loki to claim. Sentry could be interesting, because of the Void, but I am not quite sure what happened with his recent solo, or what his current status is. I could see Enchantress maybe feeling a bit betrayed by Loki switching sides, so that could work. But I think she would still primarily be considered a Thor villain. Hela, family drama, obviously, but again i think she would be more linked to Thor.

Another one that might work is The Hood. I know a lot of people aren't fans, but i think that is largely due to the fact that he kinda felt pushed on fans, if he was just one of several rogues Loki faced, i think he could work. He did work with Loki during the whole Cabal thing, he's magic/demon based, and now that Bendis is gone, i mean, he's unlikely to be used by anyone else.

.... wait..... Hood had the Norn Stones at one point. and worked with Armadillo (among others) most recently.... HE'S THE CASINO GUY.

    edit:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hood_(comics)
"Hood later finds another set of Norn Stones and renews his plans to become the Kingpin of Crime after Wilson Fisk went straight. While competing against Diamondback and Black Cat, Hood begins his first move by using the Norn Stones to revive Hammerhead after he was killed by Diamondback's men.[66] When Diamondback was defeated by the Defenders, Hood took over his areas and plans to get his gang back together. Though the Defenders defeated Hood with help from the other superheroes, Hood escaped.[67]"

so I never actually read that, does anyone know what happened to the stones after that? Could Loki have stolen them from Hood?

"During the "Search for Tony Stark" arc, Hood managed to get his gang back together with Answer, Armadillo, Brothers Grimm, Centurius, Corruptor, Cutthroat, Crossfire, Deathwatch, Jigsaw, Living Laser, Razor Fist, Slug, Vermin, the Wrecking Crew, and the son of Constrictor."

Like, it's a ready made rogues gallery right there.

also, he has apparently worked with Blue Streak and his gang at some point as well, who are appearing in Jane's book. I'm just saying... could he be operating from the shadows to establish his whole crime lord deal, and is behind the heist of magical weapons? and maybe Loki and Jane actually have a shared baddie here? Teamup.

I thought for a bit there that he was currently dead but checked the issues and the 'death' happened before his appearance in Iron Man, so he is alive.

A Superior Spider-man team up honestly would be pretty fun, since they're both in pretty similar positions of 'Wow, this face turn really has some legs, huh." Actually, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it showed up in SpOck's book, since the chance to bounce Otto's ego off a a foil like Loki seems pretty thematically consistent with what they're doing over there right now.

I'd love for Loki's rapport with Dr. Doom to increase too- especially if they followed after AOA's example of not making it just a straight Hero vs Villain matchup. Loki seems like a good choice to play good ol Doom off of to emphasize more of his shades of grey.

Ahh, the Hood and the Norn stones. Good call. Yeah, Loki has a past with him, so that could be good. And yeah, some of them such as Hela, Enchantress, are definitely more tied to Thor, but I figured they have a link to Loki as well so could be against him from time to time. Same with Dr. Doom. And he and Doom have had a love/hate relationship over the years, and I say "love" loosely. And I wasn't sure about the Void either. Morgan Le Fey seems a one that could be good for Loki.

And my thought on aging slower as a Frost Giant was due to the science of cold, slowing down the aging process and movements of molecules. Lol. I wasn't thinking about the hierarchy of the Nine Worlds. Good point. And yeah, with Loki being brought in to Asgard it could easily have increased his lifespan.

I read the interview with Aaron and Ewing in Valkyrie and how they were talking about creating new characters for Jane as adversaries, yeah they'll use some established ones, but want to create new ones. Hopefully that can give Kibblesmith some support in creating new ones for Loki. And I do think it would be great if there was a character or two that crossed between Jane and Loki's series.

He really is the one who sort of "ruined" Bob. It was his plan in the first place and Osborn was just collateral damage.

When you look into his history, oldLoki really screwed over a lot of people. His relationship with Doom is downright sweet by comparison.

honestly i dunno how we never hit on Hood before, there's actually a lot of potential there from their past history. Cus yeah obviously he'd be pissed at Loki, Loki played Hood like a fiddle, and he also seems to resent villains that go straight. and he's tried to steal Asgardian stuff more than once.

Ok, so in addition to Nightmare, we have:

Hood (and assorted thugs in his employ)
    Doom
    Enchantress
    Hela
    Morgan Le Fay
    Mephisto
SpOck (tho maybe more in a teamup way)
    Kang
maybe Sentry (depending on his status)
Thanos, may be a package deal with Hela

that's a pretty solid start, really, especially if you thrown in a few original characters. But a lot of characters who, like Loki, are rather fond of the colour green.

I would also like to see Loki not fight, but team up with Absorbing Man and Titania, maybe against Hood. Titania was on the team he put together to pull off an Asgard heist, and it went poorly between them. but Loki gave Creel his powers, and now he's turned face as well, he and Titania are working with Alpha Flight.

I completely forgot about the Hood, but he could be a good match based on their past history and if he has the Norn stones. Could be interesting.

That is a good list to start with. Good characters to match with Loki and complicate matters in his life depending on the circumstances. He definitely would need someone who can match wits and cunning with him. And in the magic front, someone who can bring a new dimension to what he does. Lots of potential with those in the list.
