I really first started reading the Legion with the 5YL series, and he was my immediate favorite there. Going back and buying all the back-issues, I realized how far Giffen had taken him from the Levitz version and honestly, I am glad that most iterations of Jo have followed the TMK version more. He has been one of my favs since.

Another vote for Ultra Boy as favourite Legionnaire here. I first started reading the Legion regularly during the Grimbor the Chainsman saga, where Jo had swapped minds with Superboy, and I found his concept interesting; the 5YL solidified him into being my favourite.

I used a ridiculous amount of interlac for stuff in HS.

While I have about 10 or so Legionnaires that I really dig, WILDFIRE is by far my favorite and one of my Top 10 DC heroes in general. Drake is my boy.

    Nice list Lee.

Swap out Star Boy for Karate Kid and that's my top 6.

    That's awesome!

I'll often pull up a Klingon translator and speak in Klingon in game chats.

I'm also a bit picky on their looks. At least the guys.
The girls don't seem to go through the same degree of drastic changes.

    Timber Wolf - human looking
    Star Boy - beard
    Wildfire - the suit

Even though Timber Wolf came first, he was retconned later to kinda sorta look and act like a certain ornery and occasionally vicious runt of a Canadian mutant. At least that's how I saw the change.

Yeah, I came in after he had his operation.
Terry Shoemaker's rendition of him in Tales of the Legion #319 And Dan Jurgens in #320 were the ones that clicked for me.

Apparently, all the members that became my favorites were heavily featured between Tales of the Legion #316 (my first issue) and #325 (the last non-reprint issue sold on newsstands).

Great post - I really liked Shoemaker on the Legion and felt he could have been one of the All-time greats on the title if he'd had a more lengthy run. (was that Kesel as the inker? They worked really well together)

Almost but not quite Legion: Nightcrawler & Storm

You can read all about how two of the most popular X-Men almost became Legion characters here.
