I'm not sure. I assume there may be plans for him, otherwise yeah. What was the point. It's similar with Deadpool & Monet. Both were in that last arc, but if you took them out, you wouldn't miss anything. So why were they there? Unless Pak really does have a proper ending coming with that supposed Sabretooth-related book, then a lot of stuff in that series seemed useless.
Deadpool is a cash-grab character, so his A-lister status probably got him a seat. I love Monet, but shes more' a B-lister. Certainly not a character MARVEL would think to throw in a book to gain popularity. Obvious answer says she was back due to her bond with Creed, but it wasn't too important there. Pak used it for comedy issues 23+ 24. It got great focus in issue 24, then stalled out the rest of the book with no progression, closure, or anything.
So that arc had lots of questionable characters included. Maybe the Hickman deal coming will revamp the series, and he wanted to bring back an older villain like Graydon. Maybe he'll be the new Stryker.
Hickman has been in talks for a while I hear, and he is a very big name for Marvel. So, who knows how much stuff is being set up for him redoing the X-line and giving it a Morrison change.
