They need to bring back the anthology minis (Manifest Destiny, Nation X, etc.) where those kinds of stories were regularly told. You only really need 10 pages to tell an emotionally impactful story like that.

That also would’ve been the perfect way to tell stories about some of the X-Men that Rosenberg either forgot or didn’t care enough to kill. Then we could actually see that these characters aren’t completely devoid of emotion.

    Spoilers from today's UXM # 21...

Callahan destroys Magik's mutant gene which automatically transforms her into the Darkchylde...apparently Illyana's status as a mutant was the only thing holding her demonic form at bay...which is just not true.

Anyways, she then goes on a rampage and destroys many of Callahan's men and steals the gem of Cyttorak from Juggernaut and crushes it.

...I cannot imagine much of this sticking past the last issue.

I cannot believe how different Illyana has been under Rosenberg's pen between Dead Souls & Uncanny. I know the circumstances are very different, but damn, the magic (no pun intended) is gone.

The whole thing was a little weird. We've seen Illyana get pushed into her god-form before, and while it has made her lose control, she's never gone full animal like this, at least not since the Beyonder. When Dormammu tortured her into becoming the Darkchild she kept her mind, and when future Xavier killed future Colossus and she went into a Darkchild rage it was only directed at Xavier and she got it under control. Plus she still spoke english. You really have to go back to the beginning of Secret Wars 2 in 1985 for a depiction like this. Normally the Darkchild is pretty calm and articulate and as good at planning as normal Illyana.

Do not assume that Rosenberg read something after 1985.

She's removed the Juggernaut's power before without a sweat.

It was. It is always nice to see her cut loose. But it would also be nice if the way it was handled would make sense.

It would be nicer to see Illyana have great moments if Rosenberg didn't write anyone else as completely incompetent.

That was issue 20 of Gillen's Uncanny run. There she explained that in Limbo, where she is the Hell Lord, her sword has the power to shatter Cytorrak's enchantments. This was a little different. On earth, she just reached into Juggernaught's chest, took out the crystal, and crushed in in her bare hands.

My headcanon is that is that it was the trauma of being "demutated" (I mean that should be painful or outright letal) what made her go demon, not that she stopped being a mutant.
