Illyana Rasputin: Magik Appreciation 2019

That's my general feeling: that more than anything, Illyana wants love and connection (and is willing to spend months in a bomb-jacket, never bathing, to earn it.)

The times Magik fully eclipsed others, say holding the school in Limbo while defending the entirety of mutantkind against all challengers, she has been isolated by the power and responsibility (and must sometimes sacrifice her loved ones in the bargain :'-(

The New Mutants are people who have been her closest friends for hers. She's not that close to anyone on Excalibur, and other mutants have their own magical ties. Plus Betsy Braddock is the hero of the book, not Magik.

The non-canon Marvel Zombies Resurrection #1 has some nice snarky Magik moments, although

spoilers:

she fails to do her ONE JOB as teleport retreat facilitator. People (soon to be casualties) ask her for emergency bug-out like five times, including warning her to stay prepared to Port the whole spacecraft away at a moment's notice... Apparently editorial thinks Magik doing her best makes for uninteresting, low threat encounters, but I see it as "Lazy Writer's Syndrome" Her "Killer App" is as Command and Control, sitting on her throne in Limbo looking through a dozen scrying mirrors, moving pieces around the battlefield with stepping disks. But maybe Illyana got sick to death of that, doing it for centuries during the Elder War, given that she's literally risking death every time she leaves Limbo

And if this will be an example of Krakoa's mutant-nonmutant international community outreach reassurance, then it can't be that bad. Oh who am I kidding; a Marvel spin on Hogwarts/ninja academy is long overdue. And unlike "Avengers Arena" and its riff on "Battle Royale," this can last much longer if done well.

Magik took Dormammu to task last time they fought. I doubt shes concerned about his state of mind.

Isnt Shaman also a mutant? This book needs to crossover with Excalibur like Wanda needs a soulsword through the chest.

I'm not sure about a X-over with Strange Academy, but Magik definitely needs an Excalibur crossover, and Decimation Wanda CLEARLY needs the SoulSword run through her, and I know exactly who should do it

Also, I would sincerely like to find out how Illyana dealt with Dormammu off-panel {plus resolve what happened after she shattered the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak}

(In my headcanon, while Dormy was grovelling on his knees, Magik knighted him "Lord Dormammu, Protector of the Denizens of the Splinter Realms". If you've read much Dr. Strange vs Dormammu & other Hell Lords, matters of Honor would be The Ties That Bind, a lot more inconvenient and long-lasting than mere decapitation)
