What do you think are the odds we'll get to see him again in the near-future?
They kinda made the Earth Two Batman's story one of the possible futures for the current Batman in Johns' new JSA run.
But any chance we'll get to see the real deal?
Yeah they did.
Still, the run does cement the general Earth Two story (Bruce and Selina getting married, Helena becoming Huntress) as a valid possible 'future' for Batman, alongside the likes of DKR and Beyond.
Earth Two is my preferred 'ending/future' for Batman since it's a fairly optimisic one, despite some bad stuff that happens. Bruce overcomes his trauma and finds happiness with Selina (and reforming her for good is a major moral victory for Batman as well). He becomes a respected elder statesman of the superhero community. He has a more than capable successor in Dick. He has a daughter. And yes, even when tragedy strikes, all is not lost. Selina dies, but it inspires Helena to become Huntress and to carry on Bruce's legacy. Bruce himself dies, but he goes down as a hero in combat, venerated by all.
I don't think Bruce or Selina necessarily have to die, but I like the general contours of this future for Batman. As much as I love and respect the other futures, I'd take this story as my 'canon' Batman ending anyday over Bruce ending up alone and ending his Batman career in disgrace because he pulled a gun on a criminal, or Bruce retiring and the city going to crap in Batman's absence, only for him to eventually return because being Batman is all he has left and it was literally haunting him.
