I will admit that Thompson's Gambit does seem watered down. He doesn't seem as witty, funny, confident, and his edge is missing. I can tell Thompson is trying to appease the PC crowd and the haters within Marvel itself, there's nothing wrong with that but she could do a better job. I think she's gone a little too far because Gambit is missing some of his character traits that his fans love about him and that defined him.
You pretty much named the worst Gambit writers in your first sentence. The only positive I can find for Gambit in X-Men Legacy was him bonding with Xavier for a little while, which is important because of Xavier's status in the X-Men lore. Besides that, he had a couple of good scenes in AoX...but the rest wasn't memorable. Gage was probably the one that had me shaking my head and face-palming in a lot of his Gambit scenes the most. Layman's Gambit, to be honest I dropped it and I don't really remember it, that's how irrelevant it was to me.

I agree with your assessment on Kelly Thompson, I think he's been fine, yes he's watered down, maybe a little too nice and love-struck. It's not quite Nicieza or Claremont Gambit, but I've enjoyed him.

Watered down Gambit is not a good Gambit. If its fine for the fans (everyone but me), okay.

I think that when a character is half of a title, shouldn't that character get some story? Just a thought.

If all are loving it. Great. Enjoy it.

    Cool

Hello, Gambit fans! Here is a bit of a Jim Lee artspam…

What look or artist is your favorite? Lee, Mad, Larocca etc.? Got any you absolutely hate?

Can't say it is the worst Gambit but pretty much glorified wallpaper.

Should have just called this, Mrs and Mr Raven.

Yoy're welcome! I think Lee did the quintessential Gambit but I have a soft spot for MAD and Larocca style Remy.

For some reason I forgot about Bachalo which would be hard to do, lol. He has done so much work for the X-Franchise over the years. You chose a great image.

Me too. X-treme Gambit was great. Young and full of energy.

Loved how MAD`s Gambit was always a mystery with face in shadow and glowing eyes! Always loved that.

Andy Kubert's Gambit is MY Gambit.

Similar to Jim Lee's work, but Kurbet really leaned into Remy's dangerous and secretive characterisation.

Andy Kubert drew a lot of Gambit's defining moments. Always gave him the hard stubble look which I liked a lot.
Obviously many will say Jim Lee, Joe Mad, Steve Skroce and Clay Mann (which I agree with)...but I also liked Sana Takeda's Gambit in X-23.

When I was getting into the X-Men, X-23 was one of my immediate favourites, and the Liu/Takeda run did a lot to make me a fan of Remy too.
