And this deserves a ‘yikes’? Is this somebody you particularly care about? Do you always agree with him? Do most of his followers agree with him, or do they make up their own mind? Reviews do not make or break movies. YouTube reviews don’t even register a flicker.

    Stuckmann is an Ebert seed.

Take that for what it's worth.

Who like any professional critic of worth will tell you critics do not make or break movies. What makes a movie after the initial weekend is word of mouth, and increasingly aggregate scores that don’t put people off.

Word of mouth is it's "meh", critics are people too.

Or does "initial weekend word of mouth" simply boil down to the word of mouth you want to hear?

That description brings about all kinds of nasty images and hearkens a time for pitchforks and torches to be carried as we storm his lair to eliminate the mutant seed!

Too bad, I liked his review of Alita quite a bit. And he admitted part of his liking of it was colored by his love of anime. He's usually pretty self-aware in his reviews. Not going to watch this, though, because I don't really want to enter the movie with expectations.

To be fair the reviews say its MCU meh not just meh. Alot say its somewhere in the middle and an average MCU movie. The Average MCU movie as far as word of mouth and fan reception or even critical is about 3 steps above a normal meh. Like Look at Apocalypse which is a meh movie and then MCU Meh is like Dr Strange or antman. Word of mouth between them isnt the same. Captain Marvels score right now is just below Infinity war and above Antman. So I dont see bad word of mouth coming its way.

Watched it. Disappointing because we've seen this type of plot so many times before. I love the Goose scenes though.

How are you guys watching it already? Did you go to the premiere?

I have a press pass and the soonest they'd let us in was tonight.

I think it opened up a few days earlier overseas than it did in the US

Is Goose supposed to be some kind of a callback to Top Gun?

    Yes.

As for the movie's "meh" reception, I wouldn't sell short that most reviews are saying the Brie Larson as Carol Danvers is pretty incredible. I would never underestimate how strong a film can be built on the back of a lovable character. That being said, we've seen what weak scripts and bad plots can do to films with those kinds of characters. Iron Man 2 ring any bells? However, it does seem that the plot is stronger than that and it is actually a rare Marvel movie that gets better as time goes on, from what I hear about the pacing of the movie. So, hopefully, it falls more into Ant-Man and Doctor Strange territory. But, at worst, I'm expecting Iron Man 3, which was fine, but nothing special. Which is something, frankly, I'll still happily spend some time and money on.
