Ted Grant was one of many heroes that were introduced in Sensation Comics #1 (January 1942), an anthology title who's lead character was Wonder Woman.




The feature was written by Bill Finger and featured the artwork of Irwin Hasen (who was later known for the comic strip Dondi, which ran from 1955 to 1986) . . .

Yeah, that's a . . . questionable . . . version.

Back in the pre-CoIE days, Wildcat appeared in Brave & the Bold with Batman a few times (and once in Super-Team Family with The Creeper!), but it was never made clear if/how that happened since there was never any mention back in those stories of Wildcat being from Earth-2/Earth-Two. (Since it seemed like that Wildcat was based on the same Earth as Batman was back in the days of Earth-1, some speculated there may have been a different Earth <Earth-B?> where many of the Bob Haney-written stories took place.)

I don't know much about Tommy and have enjoyed stories with Ted since back in the 1970s, so that's who I chose to have this thread focus on.

The JSA series of the late '90s made me love Ted in ways I wasn't expecting-- He's a ton of fun. I'm hard-pressed to think of an incarnation of him I came across that I haven't enjoyed. His episode in JLU was great and I appreciate that he's portrayed as a relatively thick-skulled son-of-a-gun but can realize he's wrong and admit as much-- his pride's not insurmountable. He also reminds me a bit of my old man, I suppose, so that may be it!



For this reader at least, he'll always be the heavyweight champ!

The first time I read about Wildcat was in Justice League of America #102 (October 1972) during the annual summer JLA/JSA team-up.


Then there was a reprint of a Golden Age story in 100-Page Super Spectacular #DC-14 (February 1973), "Introducing Stretch Skinner".
