Only time I've ever liked an OP Blade is in Midnight Massacre when he was Swichblade. Also, Midnight Massage just sounds cool.

I did like the idea of Atum proper empowering Blade and having him act as his on earth avatar if **** from Chthon's diary ever smarts running amok. I consider it a somewhat poetic thing to happen since Atum is the first sun deity on earth. And he and Blade kind of have the same mission in life: Eliminate evil supernatural life forms.

Man, I need to write that fanfiction.

I dont think the gun makes him anymore OP than hunting vampires with silver bullets. Those are also instant kill. Just forces writers to come up with more creative stories for him rather than make him struggle with threats that aren't all that dangerous in the context of the marvel universe.

If the gun can kill any demon, then it's OP and should have limitations on it's usage. Instant kill for any random vamp is fine. Instant kill for Mephisto, and you're probably making things a bit too easy for the hero.

Plus, the guys name is blade. So his focus should probably be on using blades rather than a gun. Not that he can't use guns or whatever else he might need to get the job done, but a magical gun that can kill any demon or supernatural creature should would become his bread and butter unless there's a reason for it not to.

I dont get the logic. Bullets are insta-kill for most of the Punishers enemies, but he's had more classic runs than Blade. You just have to become more creative with the threat.

It's boring for the hero to easily be able to one shot kill any enemy they face. If every foe Thor fought died anytime he hit them with his hammer, Thor fights would be over pretty quick. If any foe Cap hit with his shield, or Spider-Man hit with his webs were instantly killed, same problem. Yes, a writer can figure out ways for Caps villain not to be hit by his shield but it's probably just mroe sensible to have it so that villains don't die when they are hit by it.

Blade having one shot kills against random vamps is fine. The problem is the aspects of the gun which allow it to kill ANY demon or supernatural enemy. The point shouldn't be to make it easier for the heroes... they're going to win no matter what, so it's not really a problem. The point is to make it harder. Again, they'll win anyways so stacking the deck against them in the long run is usually moot.

But Thor is able to kill most of his enemies with his hammer. He just has to hit them hard enough or in the right way. Not every bullet hits.

Thor can't kill most of them with just one hit. If you can't survive a single hammer shot from Thor, then you shouldn't on Thors rogues gallery. You need to go bug Spider-Man or something... pick on a hero that's in your weight class.

Even though villains inevitably alway lose in the end, they need to be credible threats to the hero. Otherwise, what's the point? When we're at the point where villains are getting one shot killed (and I'm talking about the main villain, not necessarily minions), then we should be talking about upgrading the villains, not the heroes.

but plenty of his enemies can. they have other abilities that create a challenge for him. like what does it mean to kill mephisto's physical form? or dracula's for that matter when they constantly come back?

like I said before, even if you have a weapon that can do harm, you still have to hit someone with it. plenty of villains are capable of getting one-shot killed, but that doesn't make them worse villains because it constantly forces the hero and the villain to get creative about their conflict with one another.

part of the issue with Blade is:

    1. He often deals with enemies that he can one-shot kill, even the worst of them (He defeats dracula in one blow in his main series, but that doesn't mean Dracula's never a threat in the series).

    2. He doesn't have the equipment to deal with larger scale threats.

Upgrading his weaponry allows him to deal with large scale threats and forces writers to become more creative with how enemies have to combat him. Otherwise you get stories like we've seen previously where a writer will just have a vampire overpower Blade and that's that. That's most of Blade's appearances in Tomb of Dracula.

The fact that his enemies can be one shotted by him simply means the enemies should be upgraded, not Blade. Again, the point shouldn't be to make it easier for the hero... it should be to make it harder, because he'll win in the end anyways. It just means he'll win a tougher fight rather than an easier one.

If Drac is getting one shotted these days by Blade then THAT'S the problem that needs to be worked on. Espeically if Dracula is supposed to be an Avenger level threat now.

you are upgrading the enemies in this context. when you have an expanded universe, like with marvel, you have a host of enemies to draw from. all that's happening is blade is expanding his gear to take on those threats. think about the current story line. the avengers are about to take on King of Hell Johnny Blaze and Cosmic Ghost Rider. If Blade doesn't have weaponry that poses a threat, he's useless in this storyline.

Course, if Blade has a gun which can one shot the bad guys then he's TOO useful. There's gotta be a balance.

But really, with or without the gun I'm sure Blade won't be useless. Steve Rogers has been an Avenger for decades. He's physically less powerful than Blade and is armed with nothing but a metal disc. And despite that, he's almost universally considered the greatest hero on the team. Steve won't be useless, and neither will Blade. If they're in the book, they'll do their part.

Vampires should look into incorporating skrull dna into themselves (like some of the costumed villains did in that Heroes 4 Hire series). that might be the answer to their photosensitivity. it might also help them rearrange their vulnerable organ.

I was thinking about him too in these past few stories and honestly his value is just in being captain america. he's just the leader and his usefulness as been in his exemplary character but he's definitely the weakest of everyone.

As for the one-shot gun, I don't think it's as big a deal just because, like any gun, it still has to hit and there's no guarantee that is does given that so many of the most powerful demons either have super speed or have multiple bodies or forms, such that killing one doesn't mean all that much
