    Default Best Goblin Stories

    An old Spider-Man annual had a list of the best villains, and #1 wasn't any particular bad guy, but the Goblin brothers.

    This was before we had any stories with multiple Goblins, so they were all lumped together, because Spider-Man would only fight one at a time.

    The Goblins are now seen as very distinct, with Norman Osborn being a different character than Harry to say nothing of Roderick Kingsley.

    But this leads to an interesting question: What are the best Goblin stories?

    I've come up with a top ten, although it quickly becomes obvious that there are a lot of good honorable mentions, even when combining several big stories into larger sagas.

    The Night Gwen Stacy Died and the follow up issue which depicted Norman's demise and the entire Harry Osborn Saga from the Spectacular Spider-Man. That arc showcased in perfect detail that even the grave couldn't stop Norman Osborn from tearing Spider-Man's world like tissue paper.

    I always liked the Goblin battle in ASM #97-98 which was part of the infamous "drug trilogy" that the CCA did not approve. Firstly, these were another 2 outstanding Romita covers and it was one of the more human Osborn stories as evidenced in the way Spidey defeats him. I wouldn't put this is my Top 5, but probably Top 10----as story somewhat overlooked as Gobby's next appearance is "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" but this is a pretty great story during an oft-overlooked period of Spidey's history.

    Off Topic:
    Cool to see Hydro Man and Carrion on that Top 30 Villains countdown.Two vilains that had not apeared many times in the stories that i think are awesome.
    To see Puma right after the Lizard and even ahead of villains like Jackal is surprising though.Puma did not had that many stories in the Spider-Man stories.

    As a kid, I loved PP:SM 88 -- you may remember it for the cover, which featured Spidey holding a pumpkin bomb amidst a raging blizzard.

    This was the issue in which Joey Z was found dead, but what I remember about it was the atmosphere of dread and danger hanging over Peter and his world due to Norman's return.

    I see people call this era boring, but I certainly loved it as a kid.

    That was a really great story; easily the highlight of that era for me. It crossed over with ASM too IIRC.
