Maybe outing herself would get her expelled from Horizon High?

Kind of random thought but I'm kind of disappointed they never showed Gwen's mugshot after she turned herself in if only because that kind of visual with her in-costume would actually be pretty cool.

You'd think that kind of image would be plastered all over Earth-65 or the Mary Jane's might use it for promotion to Gwen's frustration .

Gwen's Spider-Verse VA has been offered the role of the live action Kate Bishop.

It would be great for notoriety's sake.

Reminder that Matt Murderdock was one of - if not the - best part of the original run.

Shame he'll probably never show up again and we get Manwolf as a replacement.

It's weird for me to think that the Ghost Spider codename makes more sense associated to a dead girl brought back to life then it does for a standard Superhero who really has nothing to do with that.

Maybe that's why all the attempts to integrate the codename just feel forced.

Yeah, Gwen's basically replacing a dead alternate universe counterpart, hence the Ghost part of her name. That doesn't apply in adaptations, i.e. the Spider-Man cartoon, Rising cartoon, IDW comics. Likewise, she switched from Spider-Woman to avoid stepping on Jessica Drew's toes... and Jess doesn't exist in any of those adaptations.

I figured the whole 'Ghost Spider' thing outside of the comics was cause her costume is primarily white. That and, depending on your point of view, Ghost Spider just flat out sounds cooler than the more literal Spider-Woman. It's no more odd than Noir Felicia using White Widow (incidentally, another codename Gwen fans gave her) over Black Cat.

Also, ghost spiders are an actual species of spider that can fly - well, use strands of their own silk to glide long distances, but same deal. This definitely fits Rising Gwen considering one of her unique abilities is that she has deployable webwings. Comics Gwen only ever used them once in her run, and that was when Vulture dropped her and she was panicking. It also ended with her hitting a trash boat face first so she doesn't try again.

I think they used that as a justification for the codename in a Marvel Rising character video to justify the name (along with her being stealthy, even though she isn't that good at stealth).

Ghost Spider sounds fine, but still kind of sounds more villain-ish or sinister then I think they were going for. Although if they're an actual species of spider then it makes more sense.

Gwen Stacy and Matt Murderdock were the best characters in Latour/Rodriguez time on the book. Sad seeing the decline post that.

Gwen kinda already looks sinister, at least in-universe, so the name shift would make sense. To re-use a post I used elsewhere: Looking at one of the designer notes the hood has the opposite effect. Supposedly what they wanted with the hood was that it was meant to make Gwen look somewhat sinister/leery since upturned hoods tend to be designed towards anti-heroic or villainous characters, which is easy enough: look at the assassins from AC or Red Hood from Arkham Knight where their hoods add to their menacing appearance. This would make Gwen being wholly heroic despite having a 'sinister' design all the more meaningful and would fit with her in-universe image as a vigilante 'murderer' on the run.

But really, would you look at this and tell me she was ever meant to come across as anything other than wholly trustworthy and heroic?

The white color palette really doesn't help if the image they were going for was 'heroic despite appearances'. She looks more like she's evoking 'light in the darkness', especially since a lot of her early scenes took place in nighttime and shadows. It's the same issue with 616 Peter where they try to pay lip service to him being creepy and buglike, especially cause of his mask and eyes, but design wise he looks like a red and blue teddy bear. Compare to someone like Noir or 2099 who definitely look as sinister/dark as their characters are intended to be:

I like the idea of Gwen being a Spider with an open identity, but the 616 part-time move kinda kills it. Guess we'll see how often she hangs around Earth-65.

Yeah, any sinister aspect was pretty much curtailed by how most artists depict the costume. If an artist wanted to depict it as more sinister or creepy, they probably could have, but doesn't seem like a consistent element.

Welp, looks like Gwen's dealing with that hot mess her 616 counterpart never had to. As if 65-Peter's obsession with her wasn't bad enough...

There's so much wrong with this image. At least he's not doing this to a teenage Gwen Stacy...

Except everyone from her dad to alternate dimension counterparts seem to be pretending Gwen’s still a teenager, like her year in prison and the 6 month trial before that didn’t happen. Remember when she called Peter, who’s 28-30 at most, a dinosaur who’s way older than her supposed to be 21 self?
