    Default Jessica Drew: Spider-Woman Appreciation

Here is the new Thread on Jessica Drew. I can't understand why she's not working alongside Spider-Man or Black Cat....

Yea I do agree. It’s a shame that she never really shows up in Peter’s world unless it’s a Spider-Verse style crossover despite the fact that she should be part of the Spider family.

Jessica has two appreciation threads (and did before the old ones were locked) - the other is in the main Marvel section and is more popular, no doubt because most of her appearances are outside the Spider books. She can currently be found in Captain Marvel.

A part of me is glad that she really doesn't interact with Peter that much, he's too big that he kinda eclipse the other spiders.

Put a Spider with Peter and fans have this bad habit to compare the two. With that said I wouldn't mind them hanging out of costume. (As friends of course)

I can see a storyline where she needs a babysitter and due to bad luck only Peter is available.

    Spider-Woman #10 Jan 1979
"Things that go Flit in the Night" First appearance of Gypsy Moth
Out on a romantic evening by the beach with Jerry Hunt, Jessica Drew spots a strange woman with wings flying above them.
This prompts her to change into Spider-Woman and try to go after the woman. However, the strange moth-like girl gets away.
Returning to Jerry, Jerry is very upset that Jessica went chasing yet another "freak", and calls it a night and takes her home.

Returning to the boarding house she shares with her friend Magnus, Jessica asks their landlady Priscilla Dolly if she's seen her "uncle" around.
Dolly tells her that Magnus got a job as a stage magician. Going up to her room, Jessica finds a new
dress purchased for her by Magnus and an invite to an exclusive party that Magnus has been invited to.

Going to the party, Jessica finds that Magnus has made himself quite popular
very quickly, but finds herself more or less ignored by the party-goers.
When Jessica sees the moth-woman again, she is shocked to see that she has some sort of powers that
allow her to control thread, as she uses it to turn some of the female party-goers' dresses into cocoons.
Not wishing to let this girl getaway, Jessica has Magnus turn her party dress into her Spider-Woman costume and chases after her.
Engaging the super-powered woman, who introduces herself as Gypsy Moth,

Jessica is attacked by her strange powers.
She finds that this woman is not friendly in the least and is not interested in doing more than fighting.
Gypsy Moth uses her powers to make thread from other people's clothing to wrap Spider-Woman up in a thread cocoon and dump her in the pool.
However, Jessica breaks free and battles the Gypsy Moth again. Jerry arrives and fires a shot at the Gypsy Moth, hitting one of her wings.
Realizing that the wings are part of the Moth's body, Jessica stuns Jerry with a venom blast and takes Gypsy Moth out of there.
She decides that to let the Gypsy Moth go, since she didn't really do anything wrong,
and isn't interested in making friends, and so Spider-Woman slinks away before the Moth can recover.

Later, Jessica is reunited with Jerry, and the two have another argument about what exactly it was that Jessica was doing.

The problem with Jessica is that she really likes Peter Parker(as more than just a friend). Although, she'll never admit to it in public. What connects them together is the lost of their loved ones, as well as being loners. The way that Peter could have worked in Jessica's world is in a non Spidey supporting role.

    Wolverine #3 Jan 1989
Part 3 of 3 - "The Black Blade!"
    Continued from last issue...

Patch (Logan) is under the control of the The Black Blade also known as the Muramasa Blade, and the blade finds him an ideal host for it's power.
It announces to the Silver Samurai and Lindsay McCabe that it intends to sacrifice Lindsay's friend
the detective Jessica Drew in order to make the bond between it and Patch permanent.
Before the two can act, Patch disappears into the flames of the burning building with Jessica in his arms.

Thinking that her friend is burning alive in the building Lindsay impulsively rushes into the building only to have to be saved by the Silver Samurai.
Realizing that jumping into the burning building was only a means to cover his tracks,
Lindsay and the Samurai decide to check out a lead to try and track them down.

They travel to the Princess Bar where O'Donnell has just recently returned following his rescue from Roch
just as he is being interrogated by Captain Tai the chief of police in Madripoor about the battle that just happened.
After Tai leaves, McCabe and the Samurai ask to see the members of the Cult of the Black Blade that O'Donnell has tied up in the basement.
There, Lindsay uses her acting skills to pretend that she is torturing one of the followers of the cult to make the others talk.
With the other followers scared out of their wits they are left to tell O'Donnell Patch's location.
Outside Lindsay explains to the Samurai that she faked the whole beating using stage props and her own natural acting ability.
That night as they are preparing to go and rescue Jessica, Lindsay watches the Samurai in one of his work outs.
He explains to her his mutant nature and the origins of the Muramasa Blade and how it links to the soul of its wielder augmenting their abilities.

Later that evening they travel to a temple where the Cult of the Black Blade are stationed.
There the Samurai and O'Donnell arm Lindsay with a sniper rifle and send her to take out Patch before he
can use the Muramasa blade to kill Jessica who is entranced by it and permanently bond him with the sword.

Although she has her reservations about killing Patch, she fires to save her friend.
The shot strikes Patch but doesn't kill him and the distraction allows the Silver Samurai to attack,
cutting his way through the followers of the cult as he goes along.
Lindsay rushes down and tries to get Jessica to run but Logan revives before they can get away
and is about to strike down Lindsay with the sword when the Samurai steps in.

Patch gets the upper hand against the Silver Samurai and is about to kill him when Lindsay attempts to shoot him again with the sniper rifle.
She fails when he tosses a sword at her and she has to dive out of the way.
The distraction allows Logan to regain some control over himself and with extreme effort manages to fight off the blades influence and toss it away.

With Logan free the threat of the blade is over, however the Silver Samurai -- having come to claim the sword for himself -- grabs it,
and much to everyone's surprise is not transformed by it like Jessica or Patch before him.
Realizing that he and the sword are suited for each other the Silver Samurai departs
leaving Patch to take Jessica and Lindsay back into Madripoor to celebrate their victory until dawn.

    Spider-Woman #11 Feb 1979
    "And Dolly Makes Three"
While waiting for her boyfriend Jerry Hunt to show up for another date with her,
Jessica Drew decides to admire her landlady Priscilla Dolly's doll collection
and finds a small compartment that contains two dolls in the shape of Brother Grimm.
She quickly hides them again when Priscilla enters the room, Jerry shows up shortly after, and the couple leaves.
Priscilla wonders if Jerry is the man she's been waiting for, and also deduces that Jessica found her secret compartment.

While at dinner, Jerry and Jessica are attacked by Brother Grimm.
Terrorizing the dinner guests, Jessica changes into Spider-Woman and tries to stop him.
Brother Grimm then escapes on a cloud-and-swing device, with Jessica following behind.
Furious that Jessica still doesn't utilize teamwork, Jerry follows after them in his car.
He loses them and stops his car, where Brother Grimm somehow gets the drop on him and knocks him out.

Meanwhile, Jessica tracks down the Brother Grimm on the cloud device and zaps him with a venom blast.
This causes his costume to crumple up as though there was nobody inside.
She is then attacked from behind by Brother Grimm and is knocked out.
Elsewhere, Magnus returns to the boarding house and retires for the night.
In his sleep, he is attacked and subdued by Dolly's doll collection, which has sprung to life.
Finally, Jessica recovers and finds herself and Jerry chained up in a theater.
Standing before them is Priscilla Dolly and two Brothers Grimm.

Priscilla announces herself as Madam Doll and tells them that they are going to witness a show they will not soon forget.

Although there have yet to be published marvel comics which showcase how the comicbook character Jessica Drew is to work in the comicbook character Peter Parker's world, to me the character worked very well in the comicbook character Wolverine's world!

Wouldn't mind at all seeing a return to that.

    Wolverine #4 Feb 1989
    "Bloodsport!"
One evening Chancellor Ranjamaryam, the Prince's chancellor, runs through the deserted nighttime streets
of Madripoor lowtown chased by two men: One strong muscled man and a gaunt old man in sun glasses.
They chase him to the ground and he begs them to spare him, that he will give them anything they want.
The Men, bound by honor to their employer, refuse the chancellor's offers and slay him.
Ranjamaryam's body is pulled out of the harbor later by Police Chief Tai, and attracts the attention of Patch,
who comes to do his own investigation because Ranj was an old friend of his.
When asking Tai about the murder he learns that Prince Baran was planning on naming Tyger Tiger
as the new crimelord of Madripoor, and that someone might not be taking too kindly to this appointment.
Patch decides to go off to follow his own leads gained from his investigation of Ranj's corpse.

Meanwhile at the airport hanger owned by South Seas Skyways, it's owner
and primary pilot Archie Corrigan is being confronted by the men who killed Ranjamaryam.
They introduce themselves as Roughouse and Bloodsport and they warn him against taking business from Tyger Tiger.
Bloodscream places his hand on Corrigan's hand causing him extreme pain and leaving his hand print on the man's body.
They depart repeating their warning and advising him that if he takes another delivery for Tyger again they will come for his life.

Tracking Ranj's scent, Logan tracks it back to the chancellor's home where he slips past the armed guards.
Inside there is a table set for two, and upon finding a woman's handkerchief locks on the scene,
realizing who it belongs to Logan realizes that this complicates things. He tracks the scent to a classy hotel in Uppertown
and in the room his fears are proven correct when he finds the New Mutant, Karma sleeping in the room.
Without revealing himself to her he asks her what she is doing there.
She explains that she is duty bound to help her uncle General Nguyen Ngoc Coy,
and she is horrified when Logan informs her that the chancellor was murdered earlier this evening.
Departing, he warns her to sort out her loyalties as she will be forced to suffer the consequences.

The next day in Lowertown, Lindsay McCabe and Jessica Drew are strolling through the central bazaar
when their shopping is interrupted by Roughouse who attempts to charm the ladies into joining him for dinner
before Bloodscream tells him that they have work to be done. As he walks away he offers the ladies a night on the town.
Jessica is about give him a piece of her mind when Lindsay talks her out of doing it considering that Roughouse is "built like a brick".
Their attention is soon turned to screams down the street where they see a bloody woman collapse to the ground.

Learning where the woman came from, Jessica sprints off and uses her remaining Spider-Woman powers to gain access to the building.
Inside she sees the aftermath of a massacre, and the message "Tyger is dead" scrawled on the wall in blood.

Returning to Lindsay, Jessica finds that the girl is dead and tells her friend that they could be standing on the brink of a full fledged drug war.

Later at the Princess Bar, Patch, Lindsay and Jessica compare notes with each other and they decide that the key to stopping Coy
from starting a gang war would be to find a way to defeat his enforcers and free Karma from whatever hold Coy has over her.
As they are discussing how continued attacks would begin to effect Tyger Tiger's criminal empire, Tyger enters the room and is introduced to
Lindsay and Jessica (the latter, being hostile toward the crime lord) She has come to ask Patch
to accompany her to her summons to the Prince's palace, a request that Logan takes up.

Along the way the two are attacked by Roughouse and Bloodscream, who smash Tyger's car.
As Roughouse beats on Logan, Tyger is attacked by Bloodscream.
When Bloodscream grabs her, Patch notices that she bleeds at his touch and decides to use his claws.
Before he can do so, Roughouse comes up behind and cold clocks him.

Before the battle can carry on further, Karma arrives and uses her powers to keep
Bloodscream and Roughouse at bay while Logan revives and takes Tyger Tiger with him.
Released from Karma's control the two enforcers have no idea what had just transpired.
Patch takes Tyger to the place where Jessica and Lindsay are staying and ask them
to take Tyger to one of the many safe houses in the area while he deals with matters.
When Jessica is hesitant to aid a criminal, Logan tells her that although Tyger is a crime lord she
doesn't deal in drugs or slaves, and that her predecessor Roch did, and that Tyger is the lesser of two evils.

Logan then travels out to South Sea Airways and calls in Tyger's marker to make Archie help him with a favor.
Archie is reluctant to help and more likely to put a shotgun blast into Logan but decides to hear him out.

While at the hotel where General Coy is staying he explains to Karma that with the removal of Roch
from the Madripoor underworld he can now move in and consolidate his power. He is soon visited by Bloodscream
and Roughouse who report that they failed to murder Tyger, but because Bloodscream tasted her blood, he can track her anywhere.
Coy is less than impressed by this as he has the Prince's favor presently but it may be limited should this problem continue to carry on.
When he learns that Patch had left the island with Corrigan he believes that Patch is more likely going to attack his Opium crops on the mainland
rather than flee for his life and hopes that Corrigan's loyalty to him will remain steadfast, and begins planning an appropriate welcome just in case.
Coy then proposes a toast to the death of his enemies, a toast that Karma reluctantly drinks to.
When her uncle and his strong-men leave, she breaks the wine glass in her hand,
as she stares at her bleeding hand in tears she wonders what she is going to do.

It all depends on the story. I thought that Jessica was going to be a part of Peter's world. Instead, all we got was Silk and Spider-Gwen, that made me very angry because I saw that as an attempt to to further divide anyone form creating a story where Jessica and Peter are working together as he does with Black Cat. The opportunity to bring Jessica into Peter's world was in the pages of ASM(2014) where they fight the Queenpin and Electro.

"The Last Tale Of the Brothers Grimm!"
Magnus is awoken by the mystically animated bodies of Priscilla Dolly's doll collection and traces the mystical
aura to a playhouse where Dolly and the Brothers Grimm have Spider-Woman and Jerry Hunt hostage.
Dolly explains to Magnus that her husband Nathan Dolly was a doll collector
who became the costumed villain Mr. Doll before being defeated by Iron Man.

He then went on searching for dolls with similar powers. He came across the Brothers Grimm dolls,
which he was told he could put his life force into. Upon doing so, Dolly soon found his body trapped within his dolls,
and since then his wife Priscilla has been trying to find a way to give Nathan a new body.

She and the Brothers Grimm (revealed as her sons William and Jacob) demand that Magnus
casts a spell to transport Nathan's soul into Jerry's body, threatening to kill Spider-Woman if he refuses.
Magnus agrees, and Jessica and Jerry are knocked out with gas.
After a strange dream about Jerry and herself resembling the story Little Red Riding Hood,
Jessica awakens to find that a magical ceremony is underway to transport the soul of Nathan Dolly into the body of Jerry Hunt.
The Dolly brothers in one pentagram (with a Brother Grimm doll each) in one pentagram

and Jerry in another. Jessica watches as Magnus casts his spell.
Breaking free and subduing Madam Doll, Spider-Woman swings in and pulls Jerry free as Nathan's soul is pulled out of the dolls.

Traveling to the now empty pentagram, Nathan is mortified that there is no host body waiting for him, and is cast off into oblivion.
With Jerry and Magnus safe, the trio departs, leaving Mrs. Dolly behind with her boys,
who turned out to be dolls themselves controlled by Dolly's influence.
The maddened Dolly talks to her boys, asking them to please, please wake up.

    Wolverine #5 Mar 1989
    "Hunter's Moon!"
With her uncle Nguyen Ngoc Coy preparing to murder Patch, Karma breaks into tears after crushing a wine glass in her hands.
Witnessing this, Bloodscream asks her what is the matter. When she tells him nothing, he can tell that her soul is in anguish and samples
some of the blood that is left on the table cloth from her cut hand, and tells her that their lives are now bound until death -- or beyond.

Meanwhile, Patch has chartered a flight to the mainland aboard Archie Corrigan's plane
in order to help Tyger Tiger from being ousted from the Madripoor crime scene.
Logan detects the lingering scent of Bloodscream on Archie and wonders if he is loyal to
Bloodscream's employer and prepares to use his claws to kill Archie should that prove to be true.
Archie has gone back to "get some coffee" but in reality is going back for a gun to shoot Patch in the back.
He struggles between doing the dirty deed or not, but doesn't make a decision because soon his plane is strafed by a fighter plane.
Patch takes control of the plans and with some fancy flying tries to get away.
With their plane damaged and unlikely to survive any more shots, Logan jumps out of the plane
and uses his claws to shear off the wing of the attacking aircraft causing it to crash.
Free falling, Logan aims for a lake far below and makes a perfect landing into the water.

Back on Madripoor island, Lindsay McCabe and Jessica Drew take the gravely injured Tyger Tiger
to one of Patch's safe houses owned by the corporation known as Landau, Luckman & Lake.

There they are greeted by Chang, who welcomes them in but tells them that this isn't the best place for them to hide out

and begins to make arrangements to relocate them someplace else.

While in the Golden Triangle, two soldiers of fortune named Battleaxe and Shotgun survey the crash sight looking for Logan.
Finding no trace of him they report back to their leader Hardcase, who is not satisfied and orders them to search the wreckage further.
As they soldier on they walk right past Logan who had been hiding in the mud.
Rising out of the muck he sneaks up behind them and gets the drop on them.

Meanwhile, in Madripoor, Lindsay and Jessica make themselves at home and get to know Chang.
Jessica is shocked to find a 19th century tintype photograph depicting Logan and Chang.

More questions are raised when Lindsay tries on a outfit that is made of metal but is as comfortable as a second skin.
Chang is not at liberty to explain his organizations secrets, and whatever further explanations
are cut short when suddenly Roughhouse bursts through the wall to take Tyger Tiger.

Back on the Golden Triangle, Logan uses Axe and Shotgun's radio to make an emergency signal
to the Harrier's base before rushing in and fighting off their hired goons and attacking their base.
As the fight causes a fire, some of Hardcase's men attempt to make a break with Coy's supply of Opium.
Patch attempts to stop them but is gunned down. As they try to escape,
Archie flies overhead blasting some of the trucks with his planes weapons.
When one of Coy's men finds Logan alive, he is shocked to find that he survived an entire clip of ammunition.
When he tries to raise his weapon to shoot him again, Logan jumps at him and kills him with his claws.

With the shipment of Opium destroyed Logan and Archie make their escape back to Madripoor,
leaving the Harriers behind and their leader Hardcase hoping to meet Logan again in the future.
On the way back Archie asks Patch if this will cripple Coy's plot to take over the Madripoor crime scene.
Logan isn't so sure, but believes anything is possible. Logan's word would seem contrary as back in Madripoor,
the safehouse of Landau, Luckman & Lake has been torn to the ground, and among the rubble is the lifeless body of Chang.
