Yea, they tried I guess, but there is just no way of not making that dumb name that only exists for synergy with Marvel Rising work naturally. Hell even her reasoning of “Jess would kill her for using Spider-Woman” doesn’t work when she’s in 616 where there are currently no less than 3 people going by the name of Spider-Man running around, 2 of which operate out of the same city.
Early on in the first New Avengers series by Brian Bendis, Jess (even if she really was the Skrull Queen Veranke in disguise) and Peter bantered a bit about it, and on Jess/Veranke's end, she seemed rather annoyed that there were other Spider-Women. Then again, she (the real Jessica Drew) did meet her successors and help mentor the youngest in Mattie Franklin's Spider-Woman series, so aside from the one that was actually evil (Charlotte Witter), you'd think she wouldn't have that much of a problem with them.
The spider is always on the hunt.
I'm pretty sure Jess has referred to all 3 of them (herself, Silk and Gwen) as Spider-Women before.
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Yeah, she named herself after her organic webbing instead.

To be fair, Gwen has no reason to even know that Julia and Mattie exist. Both were last seen in Clone Conspiracy, but didn't meet Gwen there - Julia was with Prowler and Mattie was with Silk. Mattie was dead for both Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon and Julia for some reason was barely involved in Verse and ignored for Geddon.

Especially Julia (she's the one with the stronger connection with the Web of Life and Destiny).
In Spider-Verse, yeah. Trouble is, she had a coma around that time (thanks a lot, Daredevil). And when it came to Spider-Geddon, she'd been depowered, due to Madame Webb's temporary resurrection in Clone Conspiracy.

Actually, Julia was in a coma because of Superior Spider-Man, her last vision predicting his rise and the fall of Peter Parker. Of course, Peter ultimately came back, but somehow that didn't pull her out of her coma until her connection to the Web of Life and Destiny had been severed in the epilogue of Spider-Verse. That said, the depowering in The Clone Conspiracy didn't make sense to me, as her original spider-powers should've remained intact even if she lost the psychic abilities of clairvoyance, precognition, telepathy, and astral projection she inherited from Cassandra Webb.

Gwen should've seen this coming:

Literally just enrolls and immediately has 616 Gwen's stalker on her ass. Peter really should've given her a heads up. Also, more Mary Jane and Gwen variants cause the authors loves to tease things that'll never happen:
