In both these movies, the visuals do a lot of the work in establishing the connection between the two love interests. In Patty Jenkin's movie she often has Steve and Diana going along parallel tracks--Diana will look over to Steve and see that he's there all the way, supporting her--that establishes that he's a good partner, he always has her back. In James Wan's movie, he does a similiar thing where Mera and Arthur are both in frame but in their own battles. There are also the comic scenes--Diana and the ice cream cone, Mera and the rose--in which the male supports the female and doesn't make her look stupid for being innocent about things she never knew before. And it's the woman who decides when she's ready to make love to the man. It's also interesting that both movies have a scene with our lovers on a boat.
