Default original Golden Age Doll Man (Darrell Dane) appreciation (2019)

NOTE: This is a continuation of the previous "Doll Man (Darrell Dane) appreciation thread", which can be read here:
From the original thread (started back in July of 2017),

Long before Ray Palmer developed his size-changing abilities, Quality Comics introduced us to a pint-sized hero named Doll Man back in Feature Comics #27 (December, 1939). Three issues later, he grabbed the main cover feature slot.

His run at Quality went from 1939 up until 1953.

After that, his next new appearance would be in Justice League of America #107 (1973) when he teamed with other Quality Comics characters to form the Freedom Fighters on Earth-X.

from Doll Man's introduction to the DC universe proper in Justice League of America #107-108 in 1973:

and from two pages in issue #108:

(By the way, the "Superman" in this story is the Golden Age Superman (Kal-L) from Earth-2.)

I always thought it was funny that some artists drew Doll Man's hair the same as Superman's.

Spike (from Sugar and Spike) could be Doll Boy, Doll Man's sidekick.

Except Sugar and Spike first appeared in 1956 and Doll Man wasn't published by Quality Comics after 1953.

Besides, he didn't need a kid sidekick, even if Spike was sometimes called "DollBoy" in his own feature.

The first stories with Doll Man I ever read were back in a couple of reprints in 1973 (though I'm not sure which one I read first).

"Guardians Against Crime", which was originally published in Doll Man #31 (December 1950), was reprinted in DC 100-Page Super Spectacular #DC-14 (February 1973).

"The Man in the Iron Mask", originally from Doll Man #15 (Winter 1948) was reprinted in Wanted: The World's Most Dangerous Villains #5 (January 1973).

Golden Age Doll Man is drawn much better than the usual Golden Age stuff. Who was his artist?

According to the GCD, that issue's story had some minor artists...

. . . Will Eisner and Lou Fine.
