Kind of wondering who they'd cast as Vigo. Homburg and Sydow passed away. Then again Wilde did pretty a pretty decent Gozer so and Homburg wasn't that menacing outside of the painting and without Sydow's voice in the first place....

I really hope the villain isn’t Vigo. I can understand bringing back Gozer to relaunch the franchise. Generate excitement by not just having the originals passing the torch but by bringing back the most famous villain. But now that the franchise is back, they need to come up with something original and not just rehash everything.

Don’t have the same failings as the last Star Wars trilogy. I can see it now. The Ghostbusters opening scroll. “Vigo has returned somehow.”

2 in many ways was already a bit of a rehash except for Vigo-Dana the center of the phenomenon, Song montage, guys investigate the ghost (Including a possessed oddball), jerk authority incapacitating the Ghostbusters until the city is overwhelmed by the Ghost outbreak, big giant walking through Manhattan (Although on the Ghostbuster's side the second time). Vigo himself was probably the biggest difference, as he's present throughout the film while Gozer really shows up at the end and it's Zuul and Vince who do the main stuff.

The new director co-wrote Afterlife with Reitman, so I am sure it will be fine.

They got Kenan, one of the VG writers, and Reitman writing it. JMS also apparently is contributing.

All we know is it is the next installment of the Spengler family story, takes place in New York, the principal cast is back (Rudd & Coon are confirmed as co-stars with the 4 kids as leads) and Ernie & Annie are the OGs that will support the new team.

Oh! And a Christmas-time release date of 12/20/23.

There is a rumor that Firehouse (the codename) had an initial script where the kids accidentally catch the ghosts of Christmas and have to figure out how to fix Christmas. Which is interesting because that is a JMS script from the RGB cartoon. The only other rumor is that fan and non-fan surveys overwhelmingly want a new villain.
