Default The Just War story arc - spoilers for all issues

This is a seperate discussion thread for Wilson’s first arc as a whole.

For me, the last issue was the strongest but still only passable. Wonder Woman seemed to accomplish very little, and in the final showdown was made entirely redundant by a few whispers by Aphrodite.

Steve gets some good lines, an we see how much he and Diana mean to each other.

Etta gives a lot of lectures, pausing only when she gets shot.

I have no idea why the Olympisns turned up in the same war zone, but it’s an interesting tease.

Why doesn’t Ares recognise Aphrodite when all the Olympisn minions clearly do?

Ares blows up a family with a little boy while Wonder Woman watches on, but he feels bad about it after so he gets to walk away.

The art DEFINITELY improves in the last two issues.

It picks up at the end, but for me still gets two stars overall.
If ten years of recording The Young and the Restless for my mother have taught me anything, it's that characters in serial dramas are always happily in love...until they're not

Three stars from me for a bit of a meandering start, but a strong finish with the voice and characterization of Diana.

Bonus points for keeping Steve as a supporting character, the new versions and mystery of the gods’s rebirth, and a sassy griffin and libidinous pegasus.

    Very well said.

Starting a run (yet again) with the concept of who is WW. A Diana that doubts herself so easily after years of doing this, is not good.

She didn't stop the war or Ares herself. So she was redundant.

Her showings were boring and weak. Same for Ares. They don't feel like high tiers at all.

The writing overall was pretty good although I felt that the final battle was a let down being that all it took to subdue Ares was for Aphrodite to whisper some words to him. I would have preferred for Diana to defeat him on her own. I did like the characterization so far, especially Aphrodite's. My biggest concern with this arc was Cory Nord's art. His Diana is way to skinny and frail. The cartoonish art style doesn't help either. His art is almost as bad as Tony Akins was. I really wish DC would put an A-list artist on this book for the long haul. Is Nicola Scott done with Black Magic yet?

Liked it a LOT. And I'm predicting it will just get better and better. Wilson's plots are some of the best conceptually, but I do think the execution for this arc isn't perfect, especially in the last issue.

Nine votes in and a perfect bell curve.

How often does THAT happen? LOL.
