Thing form. I presume it's because Marvel thinks its more visually interesting since she only show up for cameo's nowadays.

Even though they’ve never interacted on-panel (???),Sharon would be a great fit as a member of the Captain Marvel ensemble at some point. I’d be over the moon for a reference to her in the movie since they’re already planting the seeds for a Captain Marvel Family there (see young Monica and future Kamala plans).
Sharon Ventura the Badass with similar alien issues to Carol would get along swimmingly.

Sharon was last seen in the new FF series. Still in She-Thing form.

I think she's a character with a lot of potential still. But it might be time to undo the whole She-Thing shtick. Have her shed that rocky form like a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis. The Ms. Marvel name is no longer an option, but maybe something like Ms. Ultra or Ultra Woman is. Maybe have her team up Luke Cage from time to time. "Power Man and Ultra Woman." Yeah, that might work.

To me, when and where the marvel character Sharon Ventura will appear in a marvel comic, it is to be without suffering from any identity crisis.

To me, when it is established that the comicbook character Ms. Marvel accommodates to the requirement of worshipping the comicbook character Carol Danvers, then both comicbook characters will get along swimmingly.

    Fantastic Four #326 May 1989
Frightful Four appearance in "The Illusion"
Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman are walking along Hydrobase talking about
their current membership among the Avengers and how it is not satisfying for them.
Reed confesses that he wishes to return to the Fantastic Four and is curious how things are going with the group after the Inferno incident.
Sue agrees to let her husband go into Manhattan to check things out, but reminds
him of his promise not to interfere since handing over leadership of the team to Ben.
As Reed takes a ship over to the Four Freedoms Plaza, he reflects on how he led the Fantastic Four
and how they were the pioneers of super-heroes, saving the world before others existed.
Landing on the roof of the Plaza, Reed attempts to use his key-card to access the roof hatch and finds that it no longer works.
In order to get inside he reshapes his finger into the configuration of the card reader's slots so he can gain access.
However upon entering his former headquarters, he triggers the security systems and his legs are instantly caught in hidden leg shackles.
Suddenly a laser cannon starts firing at him.
Using his stretchable body to dodge the blasts, Reed finds no way he can possibly get out of the room.
Changing tactics, he stretches his hand into a slot in the wall and finds the
hidden power source, pulling the plug on it and disabling the security devices.

Reed is suddenly greeted by Ben, Sharon, Johnny and Alicia who are surprised to find him in this situation since none of the alarms went off.
Reed suspects that proper maintenance of the security systems have not been followed
and is allowed into the master control room to make the necessary adjustments.
He then addresses how Johnny's flame presently flaring out of control and learns that it is an after effect from the Inferno crisis.
Offering to help Johnny, Reed assures Ben that is all he is going to do, and doesn't plan on taking away leadership of the Fantastic Four from him.
With everything sorted out, Reed goes to send out to his wife to tell her to come join him since they will be staying for a bit.

As Reed sends out this transmission he is unaware that the Fantastic Four's security systems have been hacked by the Wizard,
who was able to infiltrate the outdated systems with a computer virus of his own design.
With the return of Reed Richards to the Fantastic Four he is ready to begin his latest attempt at getting revenge
against the Fantastic Four, and goes to check on his newly assembled Frightful Four: Titania, Hydro-Man, and Klaw.
When it comes to discussing their personal track records, both Hydro-Man and Titania get into
arguments with Klaw and the Wizard over their past failures against the Fantastic Four and other heroes.
The Wizard cuts them all off to tell them that the time to attack is now, because Richards is returning to the team.

Back at the Four Freedoms Plaza, Sue arrives with Franklin and they are happily reunited with Johnny, Ben and Alicia.

While Reed is busy working in his lab with the assistance of Ms. Marvel.
After Sue's arrival she has Ben bring in Reed's new personal computer, the Turino XL so it can compute the more complicated work.
Reed explains to his team how the computer is top of the line and has enhanced the way he does his research.
As Reed continues to work in the lab, Sue pulls Ben aside, and assures the Thing
that Reed has no intention to return to the group and retake the reigns of leadership.
But also tells him because of the life they live as super-heroes, outside forces could eventually force their return to the Fantastic Four.
As Sue is telling Ben this, down in the street below Titania is posing as a street busker to case the Four Freedoms Plaza.

While back upstairs, Reed and Sharon are putting the finishing touches on the device he hopes will cure Johnny's condition.
As they finish, Sharon brings up how Ben has said that Reed may have a way to cure her condition.
Reed tells her of his theory about how the transformation into a Thing can be changed back and forth by will.
Even after telling her this, Sharon explains that she is happy the way she is.
Reed is surprised, but is no less happy to hear how comfortable she is and looks forward to working with her more in the future.

As the Frightful Four prepare to make their attack, Reed has called in everyone into his lab to tell them his latest invention is complete.
He has Johnny sit down in the specially prepared chair and activates the device that begins siphoning the excess fire from Johnny's body.
At that crucial moment, the Frightful Four attacks, smashing in through one of the windows.
The members of the Fantastic Four are caught off guard at first with this new incarnation of the Frightful Four and their different power sets,

but they eventually turn the tide of battle in their favor. As the battle rages on the Thing is knocked into the machine trying to cure Johnny
and there is a sudden explosion. When the smoke clears, Johnny emerges from the wreckage cured of his excess flames.
However everyone's attention is then turned to the Ben, who has been restored back to his human by the explosion.

However in Sam Wilson: Captain America she showed up at a UCWF match in human form. Now that was before That FF issue....so it seems like writers really don't know what to do with her. Just have Franklin us some of his power to make her human again and be done with it.

It was never said that the woman in SAM WILSON: CAPTAIN AMERICA was actually Sharon. It could have just been a woman in her old Ms. Marvel costume. After all, they also had someone who was not Ben Grimm dressed up in a Thing costume for the event.

Given that Sharon has consistently been shown to be a Thing (in one form or another) since the 90s, and has been seen in Thing form again since that issue, I think we can safely assume it wasn't actually Shary.

    Fantastic Four #327 Jun 1989
    Frightful Four appearance in "Why?!"
During an attack on the Fantastic Four by the Frightful Four, the Thing was knocked into one of Reed's cosmic ray machines.
The resulting explosion has restored the Thing back to his human form.
As he watches the other members of the Fantastic Four fight on without him, he recalls how he was recently
the strongest member and leader of the Fantastic Four, but wonders where he will fit in the picture now.
He also thinks about how he had given up hope of ever becoming human again, and here he
finally has what he always wanted, when his team could use the Thing's strength the most.

Ben is not the only one thinking about his sudden return to human form.
Sharon is the first to notice as she battles Titania. This distracts her for a moment,

but once Titania lands a solid blow, Ms. Marvel refocuses her attention to her attacker.
Likewise is Johnny distracted fighting Hydro-Man.
But when his foe douses his flames, Johnny increases his heat enough to turn his attacker into steam.
Meanwhile, Sue tries to defend Alicia and Franklin from Klaw. But when her enemy tries to use Franklin as a hostage,
he realizes how much of a mistake that is when Franklin unleashes his mutant powers and sends him reeling with a psi-blast.
Mister Fantastic on the other hand does not fair as well against the Wizard, who manages to incapacitate him as they battle.
Ben rushes to Reed's aid, only to be blasted aside himself.
However before Ben can be harmed further, Sharon sends Titania slamming into the Wizard.
Then the Torch swoops in and uses his flames to make his Wonder Gloves too hot to wear.
Sue then tries to keep the Frightful Four disorientated by using her invisibility powers to lift
them all off the ground, but the Wizard has a contingency plan. Activating a device on his chest,
he summons a vortex that keeps Sue disorientated long enough for the Frightful Four to escape.

With the battle over for the moment, the group take a moment to process the fact that Ben is human again.
While Reed's interest in examining Ben leads Johnny to hope that Reed and his sister are returning to the group,

Ms. Marvel can't help but think how small Ben looks now.
She gets nervous when Alicia feels Ben's face, but Ms. Marvel is surprised when Ben runs to hug her.
With this happy moment, Reed stretches off to try and find out how the Frightful Four managed to attack them.
Sue storms after him, upset that he has made a snap decision to retake control of the team.
When she calls Reed on it, he admits it, and Sue tells him that he is making assumptions when Johnny and Sharon are equally
as capable of leading the group. Reed tells her that he is here to help the team, that he loves his time away in Connecticut,
but also yearns to be back with the team. However, he is only here to help them in their time of need
and if he decides to stay remains to be seen. After the couple make up, Reed tells his wife that he has
discovered the Wizard's computer virus and can use it to track the Frightful Four back to their hideout.

Meanwhile, at a warehouse on Long Island, the Wizard chastises his new team for failing to destroy the Fantastic Four.
This leads to a full blown argument between himself and Titania. Hydro-Man and Klaw break up the fight,
and the Wizard sends them all away while he thinks of their next course of action. Left alone, the Wizard rages
over the fame and recognition that Reed Richards receives while he himself is seen as nothing more than a crackpot.
Remarking about the changes in the Fantastic Four's overall numbers and how he can hire more people himself to his cause.
As he is saying this, he is unaware that he is being watched by the Dragon Man from the window outside.

Back at the Four Freedoms Plaza, Ben goes through his trunks of old clothes and remarks at how dated his clothing is.
Sharon cuts into the conversation, insecure over what his return to human from means to their relationship.
Ben reassures her that he still loves her and wants to continue their relationship, telling her
that it doesn't matter what either of them look like to him, his feelings will always be the same.
This tender moment is suddenly interrupted by Reed who calls them into his lab.
Reed explains that he has tracked the Wizard and his minions to an abandoned warehouse.
With this news, Ben turns the reigns of leadership over to Reed. Soon Reed, Johnny, Sharon
and Sue are off in the Fantasti-Car to face their foes. Along the way, Sue feels sorry for Ben,
having become human again after losing Alicia to Johnny and becoming the leader of the Fantastic Four, only to lose it all.
Watching his teammates fly away, Ben remarks how he and Alicia used to worry about him ever returning to his human form,
and how great it is now that he's achieved it now that it doesn't matter anymore.

The Fantastic Four soon ambush the Frightful Four at their hideout, and as the battle rages on
the Fantastic Four gain the edge and start taking down their foes one by one.

When the battle is all but won, suddenly the four heroes are incapacitated by a mental bolt.
When the Frightful Four recover, the Wizard introduces his team to their newest allies: Aron the Watcher and the android Dragon Man.

    I surmise that the fight between Ms. Marvel and Titania probably went so well for the comicbook character Sharon, because of her experience fighting She-Hulk 6 issues prior;

    Fantastic Four #328 Jul 1989
    "Bad Dream!"
With the help of Aron the Rogue Watcher, the Frightful Four have defeated the Fantastic Four.
The Wizard explains to his teammates that while they were fighting their foes, he contacted Aron and his minion the Dragon Man to assist them.
In the heat of the battle, Aron used his mental powers to incapacitate the Fantastic Four, ensuring the villains victory.
Aron explains that although he is a member of the Watchers, a race sworn to only observe other alien races and never interfere, he was intrigued
when Uatu -- the Watcher from Earth -- was put on trial by his peers for his regular interference in the lives of the people who lived there.
After being sentenced to take on Aron as a student and after encountering
the Fantastic Four himself, he was intrigued and decided to act instead of watch.
Part of his plan involved collecting tissue samples of the members of the Fantastic Four as part of these goals.
Utilizing a special suit that masks him from Uatu's gaze, Aron secreted away to Earth to carry out his plan.
The Wizard is furious that Aron will not assist in destroying the Fantastic Four, but the Watcher is uninterested in his demands
and collects the DNA samples he needs and is about to leave with them when the Wizard orders his minions to attack.

Aron is protected by Dragon Man who quickly comes to the aid of his master.
However the android is no match for the combined powers of the Frightful Four, who quickly incapacitate it.
This forces Aron to use his mental powers against the Frightful Four, taking them all down with a mere snap of his fingers.
Recovering, the Wizard threatens to reveal Aron's plans to the Watcher,
but Aron warns the Wizard that he could be easily killed if he ever tried.
With no other choice, the Frightful Four agree to follow Aron's plans, content that they may yet be able to destroy their foes.

Later when Ben Grimm arrives on the scene, he finds no trace of the Fantastic Four or their enemies. Talking to the authorities
he only gets a fragmented account of what transpired there, particularly the inclusion of Dragon Man in the fight. Without any clues to go on,
Ben returns to the Four Freedoms Plaza to report his finding back to Alicia Masters, who is worried sick about her husband the Human Torch.

Recalling Sharon's recent battle with Dragon Man with the She-Hulk, Ben places a call to Jennifer to get the low down on the situation.
She recalls that after that battle she saw the Dragon Man flying toward the Empire State Building.

Going there, Ben and Alicia ask around and finds that people recall seeing some strange creature flying around the area recently
and decides to go in and check it out. Ben and Alicia then begin inspecting the upper levels of the building for clues to the whereabouts
of their captured friends. On the 101st floor, Ben tells Alicia to wait behind while he goes off to explore.
Not even a few feet down the hall, Ben suddenly turns around and returns to Alicia to tell her that this floor is all clear.
When Alicia points out that he hasn't checked, they quickly realize that something has been tampering with his mind to make him think he
checked the offices here. When Ben goes back again, a mental illusion of a man tries to tell him to stop bothering them as he already checked.
When he ignores this "man" it suddenly turns into a creature and attacks him.
Alicia rushes to his side and reminds him that it's all in his head, preventing Ben from strangling himself with his own belt in the process.

Storming down the hall, Ben rams into one of the doors and almost fall down into the lab below where
the Frightful Four are busy placing the other members of the Fantastic Four into suspended animation.
Ben dives down and knocks out the Wizard but is soon attacked by the other members of the Frightful Four.
Grabbing Klaw's blaster arm, he uses it to blast Titania then knocks out Klaw with a single punch.
Hydro-Man attacks, but makes the foolish move of blasting Ben near the control panel and he manages to free his friends.

    The Fantastic Four rush out

and easily incapacitate the Frightful Four, and take them prisoner.
After Johnny is reunited with Alicia and Ben is congratulated for freeing them even without
any powers they make their way out of the Empire State Building with their prisoners.
However they are suddenly transported to another dimension where they are
confronted by Aron the Rogue Watcher who reveals the culmination of all his schemes:
He has created clones of the Fantastic Four.

So does Sharon hold the title of longest serving replacement/ancillary member?

She joined when Reed and Sue left and stayed well beyond them returning and through Ben reverting to human and back.

I believe she DOES hold the record for longest continuous stint for a replacement member - beating out She-Hulk's stint in Byrne's run by just a few issues.
