Dan Snyder's reign as owner of Washington is somehow becoming as much of a blight on a franchise whose original owner didn't want to integrate his roster.

I mean, that takes some level of malevolence and incompetence to achieve.

The worst thing you can say about the Redskins ownership is that they have made one of the most passionate fanbases in the NFL largely apathetic towards the team. Also Bruce Allen is as big of a farce as Snyder

Snyder is more incompetent than vicious. He will chase trends and players because he believes in BIG NAMES saving his franchise repeatedly. Back in 2001 Marty Shottenheimer was coach. He had been signed after the team struggled before this and Snyder had signed the following big name free agents : Bruce Smith , Mark Carrier , Deion Sanders and Dana Stubblefield for so many seasons. Through trades and more Snyder had cost the team draft picks etc.

So Shottenheimer told Snyder to rebuild the team they would need to use the draft and basically phase away players left. Sanders and Carrier was let go in 2000 and Smith was kept. But Marty wanted to use the draft and rebuild an older team. He had told Snyder it would take a couple seasons to build the team and that 2001 season the Redskins did better than anyone expected and finished 8-8.

Snyder in 2002 however saw Steve Spurrier become a free agent head coach ; went off his ass crazy and fired Shottenheimer , screwing the long range plan. Spurrier decided to sign ex-Florida Gators as his plan as it failed within 2 seasons.

After seeing how much of a fucking idiot he was in letting a great coach in Shottenheimer go as he was coaching the Chargers to the top of the AFC West ; Snyder decided to coax Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs back. Gibbs would last 4 seasons and was the most successful coach under Snyder as they made the playoffs 2-3 seasons. Maybe because Snyder stayed the **** away and let Gibbs run the team.

Then once Gibbs retired Snyder lost his fucking mind some more and spent the next few seasons signing free agents. London Fletcher was given a 5 year deal (this one actually was considered his best signing) , Fred Smoot , traded draft picks for Jason Taylor (DE) , and made the worst free agent signing of the 2000's. They signed Albert Haynesworth.

Haynesworth's deal really exposed what a fucking moron Daniel Snyder is. Haynesworth was likely looking at a contract at $80-90 million and only had Tampa Bay as a possible destination. To beat them Snyder threw a deal of $100 million at him , with $41+ million guaranteed. It could have been worse as incentives had a contract that could have went to $115 million in 5-6 seasons.

Derrick Dockery (guard) and DeAngelo Hall to big deals. Only Hall would prove worth his big deal and retired after 2017 after 10 solid solid seasons in Washington.

More deals was done , they traded for Donovan McNabb with draft picks and watched him fizzle out within a season. Then Snyder became enraptured by the aura of RGIII.

RGIII its said was coddled by Snyder to such a degree it was insane. He was picked up in his limo and given such importance that Snyder didn't seem to care if he had to learn the job of QB. He saw a $$$ sign walking 1st , franchise QB 2nd. Even after Griffin was out the next season due to his injury its said that Snyder would treat Kirk Cousins not so well. In fact when the team made the playoffs the previous season due to Cousins heroics in starting the final 2 games ; Snyder brushed past him and decided to talk to Griffin. Acting like Cousins didn't exist.

Well, Al Davis actually had some genius in him during his earlier days. It's just the game changed and he was no longer capable of changing with it, and his mind was taken over by conspiracy theories as the reasons stuff wasn't working out anymore rather than anything with a basis in, you know, reality. But it seems Snyder doesn't even have that.

This video details the 16 WR's selected ahead of Tyreek Hill in the 2016 NFL Draft. Beyond the domestic violence allegations it seems Hill's college run was really not so remarkable beyond his speed and ability to do kick returns and be a running back. The Chiefs saw something in him as a WR and rolled the dice in the 5th round on him.

Here is the list and its alarming at who went ahead of him.

#1 - Corey Coleman : Cleveland : Draft bust who has been traded and cut by 2 teams. Tore an ACL this past summer as he was supposed to be part of 3 WR sets in NY.
#1 - Will Fuller : Houston : Has been good , but can't stay healthy after a solid 1st season.
#1 - Josh Doctson : Washington : Injuries as a rookie and hasn't played at all well since then. The team will move on after declining his 5th year option . BUST.
#1 - Laquon Treadwell : Minnesota : Hasn't played well and passed on depth chart , they too declined his 5th year option. BUST.
#2 - Sterling Shepard : NY Giants : Has improved numbers wise each year. Had over 800+ yards receiving in 2018. A starter in NY.
#2 - Michael Thomas : New Orleans Saints : Has had 1,000+ yards the last 3 seasons. Been a top #1 since coming in.
    #2 - Tyler Boyd : Cincinnati : Had a breakout year in 2018 with 1,000+ yards.
#3 : Braxton Miller : Houston : Had a brief 3 year career with Houston , now on Philadelphia's practice squad.
#3 : Leonte Carroo : Miami : Lasted 3 seasons and is an unsigned free agent.
#4 : Chris Moore : Baltimore : Still with Ravens and on depth chart. Nothing impressive.
#4 : Malcolm Mitchell : New England : Had an ok rookie season. Knee injury ended his career as he missed 2017 and was waived in 2018.
#4 : Ricardo Louis : Cleveland : Had slowly started career and after a better 2017 season , was waived after injuries in 2018. In Miami now.
#4 : Demarcus Robinson : Kansas City Chiefs : Low on depth chart , has talent but is below Hill for a reason. Still in KC.
#5 : Tajae Sharpe : Tennessee : Started in rookie season , had ok rookie season. But missed 2017 due to injury. Is still with team.
#5 : Jordan Payton : Cleveland : Only had 1 reception in his brief 1 year NFL career. Was suspended for PED's. Not on roster currently.
#5 : Trevor Davis : Green Bay : Has only 8 receptions for 95 yards in 3 seasons. Still on roster.

You can say Michael Thomas is the best WR currently in that 2016 draft with Hill a close runner up thus far. Shepard is delivering and this year is a BIG test for him without OBJ. All the 1st rd WR's have been busts to a degree. The Packers its claimed wanted a SPEED guy and as joked missed on their reach. KC reached on Hill and have beyond his off field issue this year , been rewarded.

If Snyder sells the team and the new owner rebrands them either the Redhawks or the generic Warriors (which was what Snyder tried to name a failed Arena Football League team and, as far as I know, still owns the trademark) so they can earn all the profits on merch sales once more, that would easily make them a high-tier ownership group in the NFL. Like; Redskins fans are devout, so killing DC's interest in the team, and then turning around and going "I'm not feeling this 90,000 seat stadium, let's build another" is a sure fire way you're dealing with an idiot.

Al Davis got into the Hall of Fame on the strength of his ability to run a team. So yah.

I watched the Raiders play in the 1990s and 2000s. They were the most penalized team of the 1990s and that continued into the early 2000s, leading to the longest playoff drought in their history. When you consider how many lawsuits Davis filed against the NFL (and won) through the 1980s and into the early 1990s - pretty easy to see how that could be interpreted as a conspiracy.

The only difference is the Raiders won in the 1980's. They went to 2 Super Bowls in the early 1980's .They won both in 1980 and 1983. And Davis was filing lawsuits etc even then. But they won.

I do remember a story told where Mike White was named the coach and White was introducing the west coast offense to the Raiders. Davis however got mad because White's system favored short quick passing routes and through a game kept calling down to the field demanding White throw deep. Finally White was like **** it and called a deep passing play which caused an Int to be thrown.

Fun NFL factoid: the Panthers are the only NFL team to have 3 consecutive division titles and never had back to back winning seasons.

Yep, all true. Davis also benched Marcus Allen (!) in the 1990s .... just because. He was great in the early days but later became a jumpsuit-wearing, obsessive loon.

Snyder seems to have jumped directly to that point and skipped over any pretensions of greatness. Or even adequacy...

He benched him because he did a rare thing...he fumbled once in a game. Allen had a record for barely fumbling but Davis got angry he fumbled in a game and blamed him for this. He then started drafting and trading for RB's to keep Marcus on the bench.

1991 - Davis signed Roger Craig as a plan B free agent. His career was near done by Davis made him the starter over Allen. He also drafted Nick Bell in 2nd rd to replace Allen as well.
1992 - Davis traded for Eric Dickerson and made him the starter over Allen again.

After being treated this way for 2 seasons Allen left in free agency. Davis tried saying Allen was too old etc. But as Allen showed in games against the Raiders ; teaching Al Davis a lesson in great performances became his sole desire. And he did.
