    I don't know if Byrne got flak during his run in FF for drawing She-Hulk as abused as this.

    I don't think so. In fact if I remember correctly, this is the Psycho-Man story and at the end Sue decides to change her name from invisible Girl to Invisible Woman.

    Byrne in general has been criticized for his depiction of sadistic treatment of women since before the world wide web. A woman lifted up by her throat with one hand was even called a "Byrne grip".

    I become aware of the relatively recent criticism some years ago; I didn't realize it was even longer.
    A woman lifted up by her throat with one hand was even called a "Byrne grip".

    I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
    A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

    Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
    Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.
