I'd rather see Gorilla Grodd vs The Mandarin. Both savage conquerors as likely to rip you limb from limb as construct a devious, elaborate scientific and military scheme against you. Both who gained power from a crashed spaceship. Maybe they could even both use their versions of the Heart of Darkness against each other.

Aquaman vs Black Panther could be interesting.

Doom vs Black Adam would be cool.

In my opinon, I think Dr. Doom is a better villain for Superman than he is for the F4. Doom is like an even more ambitious version of Lex Luthor. Lex just wants to kill Superman, but Doom has aspirations beyond that. His vision for the world is one that counters Superman completely. Doom is the antithesis of truth, justice, and the American way. And unlike Lex, Doom can actually take on Superman because of his mastery of magic. I think Doom would challenge Superman a lot more than Lex because to some extent, Doom is not entirely driven by ego. He genuinely believes that the world will only be free of suffering and want if he's in charge. He believes he's doing what's best for the world and so does Superman. That doesn't just challenge Superman in terms of threats and obstacles. It challenges him on a fundemental, philosophical level as well.

The late Dwayne McDuffie once lamented that the "smartest people in [DC Comics] Africa" were a city of apes, to his consternation. My guess is he would go deep into this narrative for a Panther/Grodd arc.
