X-Men: Dark Phoenix film

Yeah, especially when you consider that the previous two films set-up characters to care about her. Xavier making a promise to Wolverine to lead and guard Jean in DOFP, Apocalypse showed that he was trying to live up to that promise, and Dark Phoenix is ultimately about him fulfilling that promise.

As to how that guy missed that: confirmation bias.



People have been spending the last two years believing this movie was about Jean’s downfall and that they are rushing to make Jean a tragic victim. That’s why a lot don’t realize that it is about Jean’s rise, even Kinberg admitted it.

That said, to its credit, it never defines Jean’s increased powers as automatically evil, and a lovely prologue actually disputes that notion right out of the gate.

Story-wise, it doesn't make an sense. Mystique not being in her blue form made sense in Apocalypse made sense because it was a physical representation of her rejecting the whole "hero" mantle that had been thrust upon her after DoFP (as she went to D.C. to murder a man, not save them from Magneto). Her accepting that role at the Cairo battle toward the end of Apocalypse was solidified when she went blue and stayed that way for the rest of the movie. Not being blue here seems almost like a rejection of that character arc. It never made sense for Beast to dose himself, either in DoFP or Apocalypse.

Practically speaking, it just screams "we don't wanna sit in the makeup chair for hours on end."

Honestly if this movie wasn't called Dark Phoenix, I think people would've been more accepting of it. This is probably the weakest of the First Class Era movies. Also I do think that this movie was seriously damaged by just everything around it (Endgame, Fox buyout, the two delays, the poor marketing).

The train scene was awesome. It's great they all got some nice moments. Jean and Scott were pretty nice in this movie. I do feel like some of the actors in this were just tired. I could not care for the villains or aliens in this (Seriously where are my Shiar Bird people? They're awesome).
