what's next? will he do an interview today about how he only wrote Last Stand so this year's movie had something to contrast?

So...I came across this interview Screen Crush had with Simon Kinberg back in 2014 right before Days of Future Past released. In it he said the movie gave him another chance at Dark Phoenix.

I know The Dark Phoenix story in 'The Last Stand' meant a lot to you.

Yes, yes it did. And, I mean, we dismantled some stuff from 'X1' and 'X2' as well. It was interesting. There are a lot of things about 'X3' that I love and there are a lot of things that I regret.

What do you regret?

I regret that The Dark Phoenix story wasn't the primary story of the movie.

But that wasn't your choice.

It wasn't my choice.

You wanted that to be the main story.

I wanted The Dark Phoenix story, but I regret where the movie ended up. And so, weirdly, this was sort of my opportunity, a little like the characters in 'Days of Future Past' going back and improving their younger selves with the lessons they've learned as wiser men. It's sort of a chance for me to go back and do differently what I did ten years ago on 'X3.'

So why did they bother calling the movie "Dark Phoenix"? It should've been called "the awakening".

Should have just call it Phoenix if you ask me.

Considering that they never call the force that entered Jean the Phoenix, I'd buy that explanation. I just wish the movie had been given the room necessary to explain it. Damn studio.

True. I remember someone on here saying before the movie came out that it was not the Phoenix Force. If this is true, then kinburg once again did not stay true to the story in any way, and no one else (like the studio) is to blame. Just him.

Remember, the “Phoenix Force” is a post-Dark Phoenix retcon. Before that Phoenix was just a code name and the primal universe force that bonded to Jean was nameless.
