Could be, although they could also be just plain terrified of a pretty girl who can turn the city upside down.I think it takes a combination of raw power and fine control to make the population of New York [the planet?] bow down forever and ever while she looks so sexy and so nonchalant about it all.

If X-Men was a video game, Gladiator would be that boss you spend the first half of the game being afraid of. He'll will ultimately be beaten by a long, arduous, quasi-spiritual quest that seems difficult at the time, but once you get to the second half and the actual boss in retrospect he won't have been that big deal after all.
