Dan Jurgens has confirmed that the girl that went missing from New52 JLI's solicited cover was indeed Alexandra Gianopoulo.
That's who I always thought it was.

This is the last one I could find...
So, now there's proof that well into the first year of JLI, it was still DC's top selling ongoing series.
Batman's regular title wasn't even in the top ten, and probably wasn't until the end of 1988 with Death in the Family.
(Although, I'd wager that Year One was when it came out.)

Thanks for posting these. I was always curious just how big the book was. It's good to know it sold so well. Such a great series.

I would be curious to know how well JL Europe sold compared to America. Honestly, it got to a point where I preferred Europe over America - this was right after the Despero story and Booster left to form the Conglomerate and that less-than-stellar General Glory storyline (#41-50).

I think 1989, with the launch of JLE, was the peak of JLI's popularity.
It was still selling good, but the Bat started picking up steam with Death in the Family and the Burton film. And DC made a commitment to keep Dark Knight Returns in print (something they had never done before, and likely being done to keep it available for when the movie hit).

When JLE launched, it became the more serious title, similar in tone to the first couple years of JLI.
JLA still had a few more serious adventures like the Despero story, but they were less frequent than before.

The General Glory started in #46.
#41 was the Max 'hero fantasy' story.
But I agree, the General Glory story was a weak point in JLI, and it felt too long.
This also coincided with Adam Hughes and Mike McKone no longer being the regular artists.

It is indeed is Kevin Maguire.
It's from JLA Retroactive -the '90s.

Although... I really disliked the coloring. I've never been a fan of the 'spray-painted photoshop webcomic' look.
