Avengers 14 preview Vampire war.

The kick-off to the Vampire War was a bad ass issue. Lots of cool action, all beautifully drawn by David Marquez. Good character moments throughout the issue. In particular, I continue to really enjoy Aaron's depiction of Captain America. The moment where Cap keeps a pack of vampires from feasting on humans seeking shelter in a church was nice. Also gotta give a thumbs up to a really cool move between Jen and Robbie, as they put their own spin on the classic "fastball special."

Curious as to who the mysterious Shadow Colonel is. I feel like it's going to be revealed as a familiar face but I could be wrong.

Loved the last page. Gorgeous work by Marquez. Good stuff all around. The rest of this arc should be a blast.

That might explain a few things. Dracula was just marrying her for her position as monster queen. Shiklah would also not have the understanding of vampire society to realize or care about what she's doing. It also gives Aaron a way to incorporate Deadpool into the story later.

So, OK, we have Shiklah in the running for Lord of the Vampires.

Also, the very idea that Dracula has kids other than Janus and Lilith is a continuity violation. Janus was specifically a miracle, since vampires can't have children. Lilith was his child from back when he was human. But suddenly, he has multiple sons as a vampire. Like so much of the Blade stuff, this is rooted in the movies, as Blade movie vamps can have children.

yeah... I've railed against the idea of the 'pure blood' vampires for decades. Hate that so many movies and books have latched on to that.

I don't hate them so long as they aren't a huge focus. And Marvel doesn't focus on them and they managed to make some sense out of them.

I think Shadow Colonel's look was inspired heavily by the take no prisoner Japanese Police Strike Force, the Wolf Brigade, from manga, anime, and live-action flick, JIN-ROH.
