I hope this drums up some interest in giving Night Thrasher a series or at least more regular appearances in comics again. Maybe a New Warriors reformation, if we can get away with some more 90s nostalgia.

The Warriors need a new gimmick, as their original purpose is basically what the Champions are now.

Agreed. As long as it has nothing to do with reality TV.

Yeah, considering that last time, it got them killed and caused the Civil War. Though only Microbe stayed dead. Namorita and Night Thrasher were both rescued thanks to time travel (in DnA Nova and Ewing's Contest of Champions respectively) and Speedball just survived it in the first place. Debrii had already quit the team and Nova was off-world due to another event.

It's no wonder that Captain America was angry at Kate Bishop recently, when her West Coast Avengers also did the reality show thing. He was probably worried they'd end up meeting a similar fate.

I was more thinking some new specialised mission, rather than just being a junior alternative to the Avengers who want to change the world. They can't just be the original team reuniting just because they can either, Titans Rebirth proves that doesn't work.

I think change the world would work just fine, especially with Thrash at the helm.

Champions is hamstrung because it's cast is filled with Marvel's push for diversity and next generation. I actually think its a good idea that Marvel would protect their brand with the Champions, but in doing so, they limit the stories they can tell about 'changing the world'.

Readers these days are more well informed than ever, and most are outraged by the state of our world. I think with the right writer, and a meaningful push, Warriors could make a return with Thrash at the lead. Fill it with characters they can actually develop and the writer can control and you have a series that can actually push the envelope.

I like the New Warriors. But I like Dwayne more. I think he needs to see some development before being folded back into a team. Asymmetrical warfare against the threats that are not being dealt with or see themselves as untouchable. Heavy focus on strategy. There's room for Dwayne being rebranded as an unpredictable and unconventional threat to the villain community. But one who refuses to play by the established rules. Ex. Using a secondary identity as a Justin hammer type to aim a group of villains at a larger threat or blackmailing a criminal simply to throw them off their game

Dwayne was raised by two schemers.

I like that idea, and if he were to have a team built around him, make it like a Marvel equivalent of Batman and the Outsiders, the team that goes and does where and what the more established heroes can't or won't to fight against the kinds of bad guys that would otherwise be untouchable.

Dwayne was introduced as good at work arounds. Can't hack Richards? Hack the dismantled Shield. Spy on the Avengers for pennies.

I always saw Kevin G's Bandit was an extension of that Dwayne, and thought it was a waste with Bandit

i'm actually a bit mad that they did that stuff with Bandit. he didn't show any of that aptitude when he was focused entirely on making Dwayne's life miserable. the latter would have benefited from that development.

right. it's an organic evolution of the new warriors concept. it's why i used to want Dwayne to take the Nighthawk identity (basically going from Robin to Batman). but i think he can do the same thing w/o changing his night thrasher brand. i think he's resourceful enough that he can deal with bigger threats; despite having no powers.

Question: Has any creator did anything really interesting with Thrash as a character since the New Warriors original series?

He got a ton of respect when he returned in Contest of Champions, but not lately, no.

I think part of the problem is that writers seem reluctant to take a character out of their traditional role. Thrash is a Warrior, so he can only do Warrior stuff, I fear.

But we'll see how it goes with his team up with Punisher.

I was surprised too. Hanging out with Rage made him seen shorter.

he's a warrior in the 'The Warriors' sense. the New Warriors were kind of a street gang in a way. Dwayne has always used a mix of classic (escrima sticks) and modern (uzi) weaponry. i figure that they don't use him because New York is crowded. he needs to go mobile or find a territory of his own to defend. if he's no longer actively running the company, there's nothing stopping him from moving.
