X-treme X-men was the first comic book I bought.

I was a kid and hadn't read really good comics yet. So I liked it.

I fear it will destroy the sense of nostalgia if I read it again today.

I enjoyed it when it first came out. There were distinct differences in the X-titles during this time. X-treme X-men was the classic type of comic that had the superhero vibe with a mix of adventure and team comradery. New X-men had a cinematic feel that brought in new ideals and introduced a heavy school aspect. Uncanny X-men had a darker, more gritty tone which felt a little closer to street level comics.
