Default Adam Warlock or The Vision?

I'm trying to track down a comic from the 70s that I read as a kid and there is a particular haunting image that I'd like to see again. It featured a defeated character who had a gem stone in their forehead and the villian reaching for it. I think it was the look of fear and desperation on the character's face as he tried to fend off the attacker that left its mark. I think both the character and the attacker were standing. I can't be sure but I think it was Adam Warlock as opposed to the Vision. I was hoping it was Marvel Team-Up #55 featuring Spiderman, Warlock and the Stranger but it does not have the image I remembered.

The other reason I'm interested in tracking down the issue is that I wondered if it served as inspiration for the Thanos\Vision scene in Infinity War? Appreciate any help. thanks!

Could that be Galactus vs the Sphinx from Fantastic Four #213?

Yes, I believe it must be this scene.

I also do not recall anyone plucking a gem from Adam Warlock and the Vision never had a gem, just a diamond shape in his forehead that emitted his solar blast.

I actually just found the comic I was thinking of and sorry but my poor old memory was way off on a number of aspects. It was Hulk #177. Hulk is fighting Warlock and his right hand is reaching towards Warlock's head. But, it was the last scenes of that issue I was thinking of where they kill Warlock. Thanks for your help.

Yes, he does. It's called a Solar Jewel and is his power source.

I think we can blame the MCU for this misunderstanding. In the movie Vision has an Infinity Stone, which is probably why some think that he had one in the comics. Back then, of course, they weren't called Infinity Stones, but Soul Gems. Vision's Solar Gem as you correctly state was not a Soul Gem/Infinity Stone, or for that matter, a Ka Stone, or any of the various powerful gems associated with the Lifestone Tree. Given that Ultron created the Vision, it does make you wonder whether or not the Vision's Solar Gem was a coincidence or not.

I feel like Thanos takes the Soul gem from Adam Warlock at some point during The Final Threat. Or whenever it was when Adam first goes inside the gem. I could be wrong, though.

    Yes, I agree with you.

I think you may be correct on this-- Adam did go into the gem, and at one point Gamora and Pip were also inside against their will, I believe. It was so long ago I may be getting this mixed up.
