Upcoming Legacy Numbering

8 years isn’t particularly long.
Avengers was on 675 at the start of No Surrender. With this weekly and the current Aaron Avengers, it’ll have done nearly 40+ issues since.
That’s all I meant - maybe it’s a conscious decision so that Avengers hits 1000 quicker than some other titles.

Any insight as to whether the Hickman X-Line will retain any Legacy Numbering?

Or is this another "Fresh Start" with no nod at all to anything from before?

We won't know until the preview for X-Men #1 is released online the day after Powers of X #6 is in the shops. Logically, X-Men, New Mutants, X-Force and Excalibur should all have dual numbering... but it depends if they even use the Fresh Start trade dress, instead of a special X-Men one. House and Powers don't use the standard trade dress after all.

Are there different Legacy numberings for Uncanny X-Men (1963) and plain old X-Men (1991)? With Hickman's upcoming run being adjective free, which would be the better count to use?

Yes there are (though Adjectiveless hasn't been used in Legacy or Fresh Start yet, as X-Men Gold and Blue were the current books at the time, and then we only had Uncanny), and I'd go with Adjectiveless. Because they could potentially launch a book called Uncanny X-Men later on. Here's how it would work:

FYI - King Thor #1 (limited series wrapping up Aaron's Thor saga) is Legacy-numbered to #723.

PS - Digifiend - Weird that X-Men would count Vol 4, but not vol 3… but I kinda get it. Brain hurts.

I discounted vol 3 as it completely overlaps Legacy. Same reason Captain America only counts Sam Wilson and not Steve Rogers from ANAD.

The ultimate in legacy numbering would be a second issue of this. Of course, it's given a number 1, but a LGY2 would be appropriate.

There's been a few that came close - the most extreme example being Unstoppable Wasp vol 2 #1, which was LGY #009.

One of my favorite confusing Legacy Number mess-ups goes way back to 1968 and 1973:

Strange Tales vol, 1 (starring Dr Strange) ends at #168, and then becomes Dr Strange, vol 1 #169 the following month. (So far so good, per most 1968 title conversions)

5-1/2 years later, a new Brother Voodoo series launches… as Strange Tales. vol, 1 #169.
Now THAT makes sense! (!)

That happened in Marvel Legacy too. Tales of Suspense relaunched as a mini starring Hawkeye and Winter Soldier. It's numbering picked up from the original. Which means the 99 TOS issues were counted twice, as Captain America started at issue 100.

Incidentally, Hulk's first six issues from 1962 aren't counted in it's numbering either, because the 1968 Incredible Hulk series is actually a renamed Tales to Astonish and thus has much higher numbering.

I'd GUESS the X-line wants to look like a new group of titles with the Hickman situation going on. I can't believe anyone really thinks a Marvel number one of a hero like Iron Man is really his first ever comic book. But readers may be put off by a large legacy number. But as many of you know, I loves my legacy numbers and was happy to see Dr Strange still sporting his #415. Even if he had nothing to do with over 100 of them. But what are you gonna do? Both Marvel and DC have long since lost any sense of actual set procedure for legacy numbering of issues.

Back in 2017 we got the Legacy Number Info Charts which gave us an idea of how Marvel arrived anther official count.

With more recent anniversary issues, did we ever learn officially how Spider-Woman has gotten to #100, or if Captain Marvel included that "Life of CM" mini?

And did they ever correct the backwards title error for that Master of Kung-Fu one-shot?
