Default Colonial Marines v Dutch's Elite Commandos

Ok we've seen the Alien v Predator

... how about the humans v the other humans (+1 synth)?

Colonial Marines Sulaco's "Bug Stomper" crew:
Apone, Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez, Drake, Bishop, Gorman, + Ripley etc...
    v
    Elite Commandos:
Dutch, Dillon, Billy, Blain, Poncho, Mac, Hawkins, + Anna, ...

Assume they have the same weapons. And landscape?
More about their skill as a unit.

Going with the Elite Commandos, mostly because we saw how badass they could be when they had proper intel and knew what they were getting into. The Predator absolutely blindsided them and they still had decent tactics, just a severe technological disparity.

The Colonial Marines actually had intel from Ripley, and were handicapped because Gorman was a shitty leader (decent soldier though). In their first outing they got curbstomped because of poor tactics and some bad luck.

Yeah, the marines have numbers here, but that's all. The other guys are just all-around better, especially with equipment equalized. Kind of like mini-action movie heroes in their own rights, whereas the marines were more 'realistic'.
    Why are we here?

Going with the Commandos here. They had tactics and teamwork beyond "shoot things uncontrollably." In fact they only turned to massed fire one time(I think) in the entire movie and that was in the minigun scene when Ventura storms in. The village raid showed us very good coordination and fire control, as well as planning on Dutch's part.

commandos seem to be more experienced and had far better teamwork.

the marines came off more like...........meatheads. despite ripley telling them how dangerous the xenos were, they didn't seem to take the situation as serious as they should've and thus, kinda fell apart when **** got real.

the commandos, despite knowing jack squat about the pred, still were able to keep their cool and adapt to the situation.

Lets be honest. They both kind of sucked.

Dutch's soldiers unloaded like 99% of ALL their ammo in a single wild shooting down one lane of fire. They got spooked to the point of breaking ranks and slicing their own skin with razors because of how shaken they were. They all got slaughtered fairly uselessly other than Dutch himself.

If not for the opening battle where they fought all those people, I would say they were pretty similar. Luckily that battle DID happen, so yeah. I agree they win here.

Edit: I will concede that they did briefly manage to baffle the Pred with a snare trap IIRC, so that wins them points.

honestly, the commandos did everything right, or at least mostly right.

and to be fair, that one bit was mac freaking out because his best friend got gutted by something he had no clue how to explain or reason with. he reacted like almost anyone would and poured down fire on where the pred was. the other didn't really have time to ask him "hey mac. what the hell happened?". they saw he was firing on someone and they just joined in. it was only until afterwards did dutch ask mac what happened and he was finally coming down off his combat high.

also, i'd give them more credit for lasting as long as they did, considering they knew very little about the pred, which was their downfall. the marines, OTOH, were stupid from the jump.

Going with the Commandos too for all the reasons stated.

How would each team do at dealing with the other's missions? The Commandos are spotted Bishop and the Dropship pilots since they have no analogs on their side and are necessary to get to the mission and back, but they also get stuck with Burke and have to defer to him at first the way the Marines did.

a lot better really. better as a unit and far more disciplined. dutch would tolerate him to a point but the moment he does something stupid, which will happen, dutch will put him in line. the others would have lesser respect for him too, since they don't take too kindly to people who could **** up the mission. see mac's threat to dylan.

So how do the Colonial Marines do on the jungle? Will the hand-held motion trackers Hicks and Hudson have help them do better against the Predator than Dutch's team?

I'm fairly sure that there's too many moving creatures in the Jungle for those devices to be as effective at tracking a skilled Predator, and I think the surprise factor of not knowing of the predator til he strikes would do more damage to their morale and probably cause much more internal strife than the close knit crew under Dutch experienced. Their weapons are far more destructive though so any stray shot should do more damage, so that one stray hit might leave the Pred more crippled than in the original movie.

Depends on how the Yautja cloak works, and how the motion tracker works. We know the cloak bends light, do we know how the tracker reads movement?

Well, it's definitely not light since it was detecting the aliens approaching them even though walls and other barriers that would block light. Radar or sonar are the most likely possibilities.
