Genuinely likable guy and his ego doesn't seem to be too crazy like he knows the movie was better off with Reeves and Fishburne and that WWW was hot garbage. If that's really how they pitched the movie to him I don't blame him that's sounded dumb af. It made it sound like the movie was set up around a couple ideas for some cool shots and new cameras and any story was an after thought. I think the original Matrix was pretty good so I dont think that's true. Cant watch 2 and 3 but still e joy the first even the the video game CGI

They were probably couple other reasons which he mention he just did two sci fi movies (ID4 and MIB) probably didn't want to be typecast, The script probably wasn't that good because honestly the CGI and action made the matrix and does transfer well,The pitch wasn't that good and Directors were kinda of unknown as well I can get him turning down the Matrix. I don't he would have been a bad Neo but Val Kilmer as Morpheus doesn't sound like a good idea and Laurence Fishburne made that part pretty good So I guess he did save us.
