What New Identity Should Tim Drake Take?

He had the name; it had been surrendered by Dick long ago, and was no longer his to take or give. Tim had made it his own. If for no other reason than professional courtesy, Dick should have consulted Tim.

And yet he did take and give, so apparently it was. At least at that time.

Why, cause Tim’s feelings were hurt. It proved itself to be in his power, and making Damian Robin payed off. Not just for him, but for Gotham and the world.

Not necessarily wrong about letting Damian take the mantle; wrong to do it without Tim's OK. As I said, professional courtesy; and friendship. At the very least, he should have told Tim what he was planning to do before he did it.

That would have been a case of Tim relinquishing the title, and there would have been none of the ambiguity that exists because the hand-off was botched. And frankly, I suspect that Tim would have gone along with it if Dick had talked to him first. As is, he doesn't object more strenuously than he did mainly because he had bigger fish to fry at the time.

Bottom line: Tim has just as much right to the Robin identity as Damian does; and if he wants it back, he's free to go back to being Robin. If Damian doesn't like there being two Robins, he's free to change his own codename to something unique to him, and then make it his own.

Courtesy isn’t a requirement, and he did tell Tim. In which Tim then freaked out an ran away. Tim can’t take anything back, he lacks the authority. As much as it was ever actually ‘his’ the most he can do now is try and share it with Damian. Which looks worse for him then it does Damian.

He probably assumed Tim would be mature about it, and would be able to successfully evolve into something else. Clearly he gave Tim too much credit

I find it interesting that as soon as someone suggests that maybe it should be Damian, not Tim, who changes his codename, we don't get a bunch of posts defending Damian's right to the title; we get a bunch of attacks on Tim, arguing that he has no legitimacy as Robin and/or trolling his fanbase.

Tim hasn't been Robin for a decade. He has the same claim to the title as Jason or Dick.

The mantle of Robin is for Robin. So taking Robin away from Robin wasn't fair, but now the enough time has passed that now Robin is solidly Robin, and giving it back to not-Robin makes no sense.
