I can see this actually being a plot point in the books, Bendis seems to be setting up a critique of gossip style journalism with this story. So the idea that the love life of one of the best investigative reporters in the world will be the story rather than her work seems to fit in with that. She'll be trying to make an important substantive argument with her new book, but the story will be overshadowed by her relationship and family. It seems so on the nose.

That's a good point especially under Ruka's pen.
"Mark my words! This drill will open a hole in the universe. And that hole will become a path for those that follow after us. The dreams of those who have fallen. The hopes of those who will follow. Those two sets of dreams weave together into a double helix, drilling a path towards tomorrow. THAT's Tengen Toppa! THAT'S Gurren Lagann! MY DRILL IS THE DRILL THAT CREATES THE HEAVENS!" - The Digger

It seems to fit if that is the direction they are going in. How no matter how important or serious a woman's work is, they still get pressed about how they manage a family or who their spouse is, or how they balance children etc.

Here's Lois Lane. Greatest reporter in the DCU. Breaks all kinds of stories, has done all kinds of crazy stuff on her own. And she's best known for being Superman's girlfriend or maybe Jon Kent Superboy's mother. It could be a meta critique of her whole reception by comic audiences, let alone how the media treats prominent women.

Well, correct on a technicality .
Well, she'd technically be both. She was already shown to be famous for being a great journalist. I think Ruka and Bendis will work both angles, and I don't see anything wrong with that especially when she's gonna have a constant outlet for her voice in the form of an ongoing book.
I'd be curious to see how much Rucka might emphasize or de-emphasize the (possibly public) Superhero son aspect, depending on the tone and style of his Lois book.
She's also kind of publicly known for being Sam Lane's daughter.
Y'know, I think that's probably the one part of Lois' life that has the least relevance in how people regard her, come to think of it.

The hoops having to be made to make this a logical situation for Clark and Lois is making me dizzy.

Just cause bendis says the sky will be pink, doesn't mean anyone is going to logically think this is believable, even in a comic, even if the writer says it.

I don't see any hoops. I'm just answering questions.

I thought we established that comics work under and internal logic that doesn't always have to sync with reality (aka glasses as a disguise)

Ms Marvel is a clear example of glasses not working. In her superhero identity, she wears a domino mask, which doesn't hide much more than glasses do. It doesn't do anything to keep her identity secret - her mother worked it out before she admitted it, and then so did her friends. So how do people like Robin get away with it? Let alone Superman and the Superboys.

Conner should have Superboy back since he only lost it because he got tossed in continuity limbo after the new 52. I figure Jon is pretty much going to be a broken toy by the time Bendis is done with him, so he might as well lose that too. Bigger issue for me is that I really hope Tim doesn’t take Robin back from Damian. That would be shitty for both characters imo.

Yep, the mental gymnastics needed for this idea to be a practical status quo are way too convoluted to be maintained for the long term. This theory creates way too many loose ends, ruins what fans loved about the Rebirth status quo and will result in so many 'Clark Kent gets cucked' comments and videos. The worst part though is that Bendis would consider this a worthwhile idea so I'm worried he might actually be planning this. Which would kill my interest in Superman beyond Bendis as I want the next writer to wipe the slate clean after Bendis' run.

Think most are exaggerating the mental gymnastics needed to mess around with this. Hell for any status quo. With any halfway decent catalyst you can screw around with any status quo. The question is only in longevity, and even then the only ones that really can't last longterm are the ones that are counter to a character's very existence. Superman's marriage/family and the fundamentals of how the public perceive it is very much not that.

If Bendis does anything to switcheroo the family status quo, all he needs is a catalyst that makes sense within the lore. And like Superlad has said already, the internal logic of comic book lore has a long leash as it is. If he has that it'll work. If he doesn't it won't.

The catalyst(s) are already being set up. From Jon's aging, Lois & Clark's new relaxed view on the formalities of their relationship, the rumors, and the incidents with Superman and Lois kissing in public and Superman, Jon, and Lois discussing Jon's trip being overheard. It's just a matter of how far Bendis wants to play them all out or how big of a shift he is going for.

The pieces are there without question for major or minor shifts.

I think he's slow rolling it intentionally to ease people into it. He's commented on how he looks back at the changes from Avengers Disassembled and how while he'd still make the same ones, he'd go about it differently.

I think that just gets into how secret identities have become more lax and rarer in the Marvel Universe, to the point where even if a character has them they're often not maintained very well to the point where almost everyone in their life knows about it (the Arrowverse shows take a similar approach).

It's different in the DC Universe where the duality between one's Superhero identity and the life they lead outside of it is more prevalent then in Marvel, or at least modern Marvel.

Which is kind of why I'm not really all that crazy about the idea of Jon with a public identity. Unless they ship him off to the 30th century where it then wouldn't be an issue.

I haven't caught up to Bendis' run yet but all that sounds kind of...thoughtless for someone who makes as much of an effort to maintain a secret identity and keep things low-key as Clark Kent does.

I wonder if there was a way to handle stuff like Scarlet Witch's breakdown or some of the shock-value Avengers deaths in a better way, since those seemed to be the most common criticisms of Disassembled.

The kiss is kinda explainable as a spur of the moment thing they both just got caught up in... I guess. At the time it made more sense because everyone thought Lois had been MIA for a significant amount of time. Later it turned out to be like a week or two at the most making Clark's entire emo phase in Man of Steel seem kinda ridiculous. But the second incident was just plain old plot induced stupidity. They had a secure location in Lois' hotel room but moved up to the rooftop bar where two janitors basically snuck up on two people with super hearing and stood their listening to Jon talk about going into Space with Lois and Superman's father. So yeah, it was pretty dumb moves for people who are supposed to be concerned with secret identity.

I think those are probably the types of things he's talking about. How all that came out of the blue and in the span of like 4 issues. He's going to make the changes he wants to make, but he's going to go about it with a little more respect for the characters and the fans that liked things the old way. I guess I see that a little in the changes to Jon. He's acknowledged that a lot of people aren't crazy about it but he's coming at it in a way he thinks is respectful of Jon by not changing his personality or character (meaning he's still the same good kid and not Superboy Prime) and telling a Superman story. Your mileage will definitely vary on that I suppose. I don't have a great attachment to Jon, but I can definitely understand the frustration and worry. Similarly, he's said numerous times that he has no intention of breaking up Clark and Lois. But that doesn't preclude a public breakdown of Clark Kent and Lois Lane's marriage, because they'd technically still be together and in love just through a different facet of the Clark/Superman facade.

It's from an interview on here actually:

"I’ve been thinking about this [with Avengers #500] lately," Bendis reflected in an exclusive interview with CBR. "That was where I thought it would be oh so clever to blow everything up. Some fans liked it, and some hated it. There were a lot of arguments online, and a fan said to me, 'We’re Avengers fans. All we buy is Avengers. And we have no idea who you are, but you came over and kicked all our toys over. You said, "Haha! This is fun, right?" And we said, "No! We were enjoying that, and you kicked everything over!"'"
    ...

"I’ve thought about that a lot. They weren’t wrong," Bendis continued. "There was a criticism there that I take to heart. It’s not that I would have changed the story of Avengers, but the glee with which I did things, I could have been more cool with. So I thought about that a lot coming into this [Superman]. It’s tough when you’re coming on, but the book has been in a good place creatively. There’s nothing to blow up. There’s no reason to do that. I’m coming in strong, and big stuff is going to happen with Superman — but it doesn’t have that 'Haha!' attitude."

Well he does seem to love bragging about not making the kid evil, like that’s somehow a high bar to set as far as screwing characters up.

Answering questions/reassuring people is now considered bragging...

Jesus christ, the hate boners that people have for Bendis is so ridiculous that some of the things stated don't make any sense.
My priority is black female characters; everything else is secondary.
