I've always thought the pupil in Hawkman/woman's eye pieces on their helmets looked kinda odd. I think the eyes shown as plain white eye holes looks way cooler.
Thoughts?

With pupils, but I think the without pupils look can work depending on the artist/context.
I alway felt (with the Joe Kubert model) that the hawk's head was really above his actual eyes--so the eyes in the mask are dead eyes (they are not what he sees with) and I like those cold staring eyes.
Without pupils. But the real question is: tongue or no tongue?

hmmm....
without pupils, without tongue.... without chest hair?
Earth-2/GA Hawkman - pupils, tongue, no chest hair.
Earth-1/Modern Hawkman - no pupils, no tongue, chest hair.

Though I do like Hitch's redesign for the 2018 series, I think the eyes look great, and give the chance for more emotion.

I like both equally. It's a great penetrating look either way.
I gather your exclamation of wonder means you're as much in awe of the original Dennis Neville Hawkman as I am. No lie, I truly admire that head dress and think it's one of the greatest things in comics. The tongue just makes it that much more awesome. Dr. Fate's and Sandman's head gear bend the knee to this ornament.
Yeah, I'd put Rags up there with Joe Kubert as one of the best artists for Hawkman, though he has had a lot of great artists.
I mean Rags managed to make the double-beak mask work, so that just proves how great he is.
