    Default Looking for anime recommendations...

I am just finishing up the reboot of Space Battleship Yamoto 2199 and I'm looking for something new with that kind of vibe. Yamoto was very retro thanks to adapting the 1970s cartoon. Is there anything similar to this series out there?

There is an anime discussion thread, and the people there will likely have more recommendations, but Crest of the Stars is also a space opera.

If you're looking for modern anime space opera based on 70's series, Gundam: The Origin is probably your best bet for that. It mainly focuses on the past of series the character Char Aznable, but also a lot on the backstory of the war in the series.

Despite updated animation it's pretty close to the style of the 70's series in character design.
