I've always thought Mattie was offed because Jessica was back. Jessica was depowered when Mattie had her book, and Julia ended up becoming Arachne because of the other two Spider-Women. Anya didn't have the same codename problem.

Possible too, though by the end of Grim Hunt we have Julia not being Arachne anymore, so they could just make Mattie get that name, that way there's only one Spider-Woman and Mattie wouldn't have to die, so basically, if they killed Mattie because of that, they really didn't have to if they thought about it for a bit lol.

Amazing Fantasy Omnibus coming next year. The page count is longer than the previous one... could that be because it's the later volume that introduced Anya, and not the one that introduced Peter?

Oh geeze, if it's the next volume, I might actually buy it. I would have never thought to get a nice oversized edition of Araña.

Though, checking the page count I don't think it's going to be the second volume. It says 448 pages and the previous one is 416. The original Amazing (Adult) Fantasy had 26 pages vs Amazing Fantasy's 23 until issue 10 in which the page count went to 32, plus #15 which was a 50 page issue (counting covers), and the first lasted 15 issues vs the second's 20. The page count does not add up.

Well, check out this relic, a very early sketch of Anya by Joe Quesada. As you can notice, she was originally meant to be named Spider-Girl from the beginning.

This isn't just a sketch, it's her final design.

For the most part, yeah, but there's the difference on how in one drawing she has a double ponytail, and in the other where she has one, the way her hair looks like is different, since in the sketch, the hair near her forehead is part of the ponytail too, but in the final version, she leaves a few bangs, the hair in the final design is a lot "wilder" too.

The costume is 99% the same though, only difference is the size of the spider in her shirt, and probably the way it's drawn too, the sketch's version looks a lot closer to Spidey's front spider.

Also, somehow I never noticed that Anya used to use sparring gloves, which is smart, but also makes this scene from Avengers Assemble#23 questionable:

Then again, in some ways, this one included, that story with Anya as the protagonist made her look too much of a newbie... Plus the whole scene of Wolverine shitting on Spidey for not being smarter when fighting is hypocrisy at its finest, 'cause Wolverine is even worse than him lol.

Wolverine is at least damn near immortal thanks to his healing factor and unbreakable adamantium bones, so he can afford to be reckless. Still, he is definitely not one to talk.

Yeah, he isn't one to talk, the problem with the scene is that he talks like Spidey is an amateur who just happens to be lucky, and then he goes give Anya advice on what to do like he knows what he's talking about, and while Marvel loves to say Wolverine is a great fighter, in practice he's just a dumbass who slashes at random and relies on his healing factor to survive, fact he says this is just gold:

He's basically saying Spidey sucks because he takes hits too many times, and again, Wolverine is even worse.

At the very least, this story is about Anya learning, and when she talks with Tony, he does say that Wolverine told her wrong ****:

So it's more of Wolverine's opinion than anything, and Anya listens to more people, and the way she's taught, it feels more like they're teaching her how to be competent and not tell her to do it only their way.

And after all these years of working together, he should know better. That aside, I did like that the last five issues of Avengers Assemble were basically a round robin of Anya going around getting basic advice and input, if not necessarily training, from the Avengers while going to them for help finding her missing teacher, which they didn't seem to care that much about until said missing teacher turned out to be an Inhuman. Way to remind the Avengers that "the little things/people matter, too," and ending with the Avengers: EMH theme song as Anya's new ringtone? Priceless.

Of course that song is still technically the team's most recent theme song, since the Assemble cartoon doesn't have one.

Point. It has theme music, but not a theme song.

To be fair, Avengers helping because the teacher turned out to be an Inhuman isn't teaching them anything, since they still only helped because he was an Inhuman who became a cocoon, not because of him being a "little man".

It was understandable why they weren't helping though, the guy went missing, she had already contacted the police and bigger stuff was happening, so making that a priority is understandable, but honestly? They should still have called some people to help her out since they were sitting around doing nothing, or at least ask for favors for other people. They also were being pretty condescending with Anya since they didn't let her finish and kept making wrong assumptions, such as first thinking she was asking for help to do her homework, and then thinking it's "just" someone who went missing, yeah, Avengers can be assholes lol.

and ending with the Avengers: EMH theme song as Anya's new ringtone? Priceless.
Best part is that Steve of all people sent it to her lol
