Well duh. Marvel has a ton of great books out right now. You have a bunch of high profile books and two big events, AoX and WotR.
Interesting that this happens the month of Conan's return.
The month Star Wars came back also broke records, IIRC.
Maybe people are hungry for more variety than just super-heroes.
Or maybe there's appeal in books that are set in their own continuity, free from company-wide crossovers.
Or maybe the non-superhero genre-fiction books can sell if they're attached to strong IPs and given top talent creators.

wonder twins is saving the direct market
I don't blind date I make the direct market vibrate
December 2018 was down (for a good reason, Diamond took the last week of the month off and a lot of books that should have been shipped out weren't until January) but it did cause a bit of a panic among those who follow the charts. Which is why the fact that January sales were the healthiest they've ever been since the Diamond Exclusive Era was a big deal. The other problem was that 2017 was a terrible year for sales, to the point the market took a 16-17% dip from the previous year. 2018, as a whole, was an improvement, but not a complete recovery. Meaning that overall sales went up not not by a lot...
2010: 45.3 million copies
2011: 47 million copies
2012: 53.43 million copies
2013: 52.21 million copies
2014: 52.07 million copies
2015: 58.59 million copies
2016: 59.8 million (minimum, probably slightly higher)
2017: 49.68 million copies
2018: 50.43 million copies
So that's why I thought I'd share.

Who guard their over bloated paucities of power with money. With false reasoning. With measured hesitance. With prideful, recalcitrant inaction. With hateful invective. With weapons. F@#K these selfish fools and their prevailing world order." Tony Stark
Comicchron's sales chart for January
https://comichron.com/monthlycomicss...9/2019-01.html
Captain Marvel, GOTG, and Conan all sold over 100,000 copies.
Heroes in Crisis couldn't outsell Batman. Not good for an event.
Fantastic Four outsold Justice League, Avengers, and X-Men. I can't remember a time when it did that well.
No mutant title reached 60,000 issues sold.
Star Wars is dropping off. The best title sold 41,665 issues.
Black Widow 1 sold only 33,853. Not good for Natasha.
West Coast Avengers 7 was down to only 14,439 issues sold. The book ends at issue 10.
Champions sold 30k, better than all four Titans books, but nowhere near Young Justice which sold 73k.
Wasp only sold 6,613 and Moon Girl 5,878, so it's a good job that on those titles, direct market sales don't matter, as Wasp was revived and Moon Girl avoided cancellation on the strength of TPB sales.

How much did the other Carol #1s sell?
"Cable was right!"
But..but the FF are just relics of a bygone age!
I would love nothing more than for Marvel to publish only four X-titles.
Star Wars will start picking up again once we start getting some news about Rian's new project or what the Got guys are working on.
I think sales are great for Black Widow considering that she works best as a supporting character.
I had West Coast Avengers getting canned at around issue 15 or 16.

Disappointed that Invaders only sold 36,462 for a first issue, but maybe word of mouth will save it. It was an fantastic first issue. I realize that most comics decline rapidly after the first issue, but just from word of mouth on twitter the interest in it seems to be present (I follow Zdarsky). Part of the disconnect might be that Steve is currently in prison in his own run, framed for a murder he didn't commit, which hasn't really been addressed anywhere else (re: Avengers, Invaders, etc.), and that the Avengers run which set-up Namor's declaration of war to begin with, has temporarily dropped the thread, the past two issues concentrating entirely on the Vampire Civil War.
