Also enjoyed the Infinite Crisis tie-in issues towards the end (#82-87) where we had brief "returns" of Golden Age Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

Indeed, that was good stuff. I think I enjoyed JSA all the way through. The relaunched Justice Society of America really fell off at the end (IMO), but that '99 series was gold.

I'll second this. Johnny Sorrow was a great villain.

Yeah, he quickly rose to being one of my favorites and I'm a bit surprised he never took off. Lovecraftian Medusa scenario tied to an old Hollywood actor. B-Movie gold.

I only bought about 5 or 6 issues of Justice Society of America and then dropped it. I just couldn't get into it or the line-up of characters. JSA was so superior to it IMO.

I loved it. I just wish we would have had more Hippolyta in it. Or they could have brought Lyta back into the fold.

Also, I really didn’t like Stargirl or JJ Thunder in the group. I wish they would have formed their own Infinity Inc., instead of being on the home team.

Me too. I loved her involvement with JSA. I got all excited when she was talking about joining the JSA permanently in the pages of Phil Jimenez's Wonder Woman. Then, a few issues later, he killed her off during Our Worlds At War. So disappointing.

Yes! Literally the most heartbreaking moment Our Worlds at War for me.

But the 99 series was really strong from start to finish.
Putting Willingham and latter Guggenheim on the book is symptomatic of DC simply not regarding JSA as an A-list property despite its sales under Johns.

Me too. Only, I got angry. What a stupid move on Jimenez's part to kill off that character. If he wasn't interested in writing for her, why not let her step down as queen and become a member of JSA full time?

It made no sense to me. Still doesn't.

I wasn't reading comics in general at that time, but was the decision solely Jimenez's or was there editorial interference / direction involved?

From what I remember, and someone can correct me, DC had already decided to kill Hippolyte off, but Phil fought to have her die in an actual issue of Wonder Woman, and not just a throw away scene in another book.

That is why we got such a good and heartbreaking issue.

I’m glad he was given the chance to show it then, if the decision was already beyond his control. He’s always shown a real affinity for Diana’s cast.

I love this series. Outstanding work from Johns.
I’ve got the first Omni and the second.
Still need to get the third and final omnibus.

Johns had a really great run on this book, combining super-heroic threats, characterization and possibly the best team dynamics and interpersonal relationships in any team book ever. Sadowski's art was also stellar.
