She was more the audience proxy than a Mary Sue IMO. The outsider who finds herself in a crazy science fiction world and has trouble adapting to it. Until she got her powers she was probably the most expendable member of the team, from a cold-eyed viewpoint.

Also she had many authors, so I don't know whose Sue she would be.

I've felt the same way since day 1 and haven't changed a bit. If anything, my dislike for him keeps growing.

Oh, I'd pin it to more than that. Not only is she the team hacker, but quickly became one of the premiere fighters in the group (if not one of the best, certainly one with more screen time for fights), and she became their physically most powerful thanks to her powers. And then she was in charge for a bit, too.

I'm all for team members being equal when all their strengths and skills and pros and cons are taken to account, but she had it better than all the veteran agents.

I do like her more and more (her subplot with Souza is miles better than Lincoln) but the first few seasons revolving around her were pretty rough and at the expense of the others, kind of like Data in the Star Trek movies.

Skye/Daisy was the lead character for the first 3 or 4 seasons IMO. Finding her parents, her relationship with Ward, being an Inhuman, her story line was front and center. The show grew to more ensemble cast later on and Daisy became just part of the team.

Yeah, I can't say I'm a big fan of the "first among equals" approach to what's advertised as an ensemble. This is also why I can't get into "Wolverine and the X-Men."

I found myself being much more attentive to later seasons and gradually liking Daisy more and more once they got back to the ensemble formula.

That's pretty sad Especially after seeing how cheery she was during the Ferris Bueller reunion hosted by Josh Gad. Best of luck to the two of them.

You know what? Quake is absolutely a Mary Sue....and I am perfectly fine with that.

I had no opinion on the character in comics; she was just there, often as Fury's right hand girl, and that was fine, I liked her well enough when I saw her but was never "Damn, where is Quake at?"

And the first few years of Agents of SHIELD didn't really sell me on her. But I'll be damned if she hasn't grown on me. And yeah she's basically perfect; computer expert, great combatant, high-end powers, and she's got damn few personality flaws of any real merit.

But screw it, she's fun, she's badass, and I like the fact that my daughter has female characters in fiction who are that capable and powerful without having any huge, detrimental hangups. I'm glad that Quake has appeared in the cartoons too. I can't stand those Marvel Rising shows; the animation is so crappy it hurts my eyes....but my daughter likes them (though DC Super Hero Girls is by far her favorite).

Hell, I'd welcome the actress and character moving over to the Disney+ series and movies when SHIELD wraps up. Why not? Not gonna hurt anybody.

Deke, on the other hand? Yeah that guy needs to go. I don't get how he's still around in the first place.

He's probably still around because he's family, being Fitz and Simmons' grandson...

Do any of them, though? A large part of the show's appeal is Competence Porn... watching people be the best at what they do. Daisy doesn't so much have a personality "flaw" as a personality trait that can be problematic in her situation... she's a Chaotic Good character in a Lawful Good organization. Which has resulted in problems like her going rogue, or telling Deke to shoot Freddy Malick in direct violation of the Director's orders.

Hell, I'd welcome the actress and character moving over to the Disney+ series and movies when SHIELD wraps up. Why not? Not gonna hurt anybody.

Secret Warriors. That and Ghost Rider should be the two spinoffs of AoS.

He's the Xander of the group... the comic relief guy who acquires more depth as the story goes on. And now he's the team's main tech guy, with Fitz gone.

With Jemma and Enoch, the team doesn't need Deke as a tech guy. And he hasn't really done anything comic relief in over a season. Enoch's sort of stolen this from him and done it better. Plus, Coulson (another robot) is wittier. I didn't really see any reason for his attack on Enoch other than to paint him as a nuisance who's overstayed his welcome. IMO, Enoch's been with the group long enough to have everybody's trust by now. It was stupid for May to attack him (though her mental state was an excuse) and just ludicrous for Deke to. He's less trustworthy than the freaking Chronicom traitor! If anyone's going to sell the team out, it's Deke.

That's a great way to put it. And it's fun; you get some tension, conflict, and drama out of the characters without having to make someone a d-bag or fatally flawed in some dumb, obvious way.

Shame the Ghost Rider show fell through, though I gotta admit I wasn't super excited about it in the first place. But Secret Warriors? Hell yes, throw that up on Disney+ and keep Bennet, maybe the woman who plays Yo-yo, and I'd watch the hell out of it.

A lot of Jemma's tech skills (except those related to biology) are hampered without the FitzSimmons team intact. Deke can help her with that, as he did in this episode.

Enoch is not there all the time. Yes, he has proven himself trustworthy but we are in a story when anyone can be wearing anyone's face and (now) personality. It was a pretty alarming scene Deke walked in on. Simmons gave the reasons why she couldn't tell anyone about it.

Deke has become less comic-reliefy as his story has grown and greater responsibility has fallen on him. And this being a Whedon show, ALL the main characters are going to get their share of witty one-liners.
