Kind of unsure about why Phil's bugging about becoming like Garret, Garret was evil Hydra villainous before getting creepy alien blood upgraded. Why would Phil think he'd be in the same trouble? Just because he does the alien writing thing?

I agree, they really need to show us why Coulson thinks he's so badly off that he needs to die. He hasn't shown any signs of turning into a violent megalomaniac like Garrett. And even if he did, it seems like putting him in a cell and trying to find a way to fix him would be a better course of action than a bullet in the head.
