    I'd say Walter White and Tony Soprano were the most nuanced and engaging leads in recent years.
    There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

    DCI John Luther (Luther) - Damn Idris Elba is good
    Rustin Spencer "Rust" Cohle (True Detective) - Matthew McConaughey is one of the most amazing actors ever
    Sherlock Holmes (any books/tv shows/movies) - The greatest detective of all times
    James Bond (any books/movies) - He is the detective everyone wishes to be
    Josiah "Jed" Bartlet (The West Wing) - Probably the best tv show ever (saying that very seriously) with the best acting ever by Matin Sheen
    Detective Lieutenant William Somerset (Seven) - Morgan Freeman is a heck of an actor and this movie is brilliant

    Sadly no one came to mind from any comic books.
