No chance. The uproar would be too much, and so long as comics make a dollar, it is money for Disney.
So Disney plans to shutdown comics in a subsidiary that costs them no actual money and plan to do this in the midst of various events and active titles which is keeping hundreds of people employed and has effectively cornered the market in regards to publishers..... yeah that doesn't compute.
A reminder, if Marvel was to go under tomorrow, all Disney would do is put it on their taxes. That's it.
EDIT: You can actually google the figures. Some of them are public but we simply don't know digital sales which has also proven to be enough to keep books afloat. Books also have something of a bar at 20,000 and even that's lowered over the years seeing as Marvel has enough money to keep some things going or they sell well in trades.
Marvel will also be acquiring a lot of franchises presumably from Disney and just got Conan back. They have no reason to shutdown especially seeing as it costs Disney nothing. The website that speculation is from also believes it's shutting down because of a panel about comics to cinema. So basically hosting a panel about how comics translate to film is a sign of the end days? Bullshit.

Doubt it. Marvel Comics are their R&D department for the Marvel properties. It's where they workshop new storylines and characters they can use for TV and film.
Even if they took away the floppies-they are not going to stop doing OGN or trades.
And funny those who seek the end of Marvel fail to realize something.
Who is going to replace all those customers that Marvel bought to stores?
Crowd funded books?
Image or IDW or Valiant? The books many look DOWN upon in the first place? The books that couldn't get support during the "WE HATE MARVEL MOVEMENT?"
The books that WERE better than some of Marvel's book but got no support? Like Lion Forge's Noble or Image's Prodigy that is 100+ better than Black Panther? Yet get ignored because we have to put more effort in attacking Marvel than buying other books?
And when will folks realize the only person who can save a comic book store is that STORE OWNER.
Where does it say you have to buy/order all those variants? Tons of Number ones or events?
Marvel can't do what you ALLOW them to do.
They could careless if you only order 5 copies of Moon Girl. She is not flooding bins. That is Peter Parker books.
Marvel is not the one sending stuff like Funko Pops to stores after every other store on the planet got them MONTHS ago.
That will never happen. The website that report this is obviously incompetent if it didn't realise that even if marvel comic sales for all print media were zero, the money they make from additional sources still offsets the loss so there still make a profit, and even if that didn't happen they'll just pivot to digital only. There so many ways marvel can make money they are safe for a long time
Look at it this way: In the Avengers comics a few years ago, the publishing department created a bunch of henchmen for Thanos, a character who had never had henchmen in the comics before.
Then in last year's Avengers: Infinity War, Disney used those henchmen from the comics, so the Avengers would have somebody to fight before Thanos made it to Earth.
Now think about how much screenwriters probably get paid for creating new characters, and how much comic book writers probably get paid for creating them, and the comics probably seem to Disney like a very good investment.
Disney remember has its own comics business...Donald Duck Comics which is published across the world and still sells well in Europe and South America.
And those comics, thanks to Carl Barks and Don Rosa, have huge prestige. The Carl Barks comics at one point were the best-selling comics in America, selling more than superheroes, and they had a bigger influence than superhero comics ever did...Carl Barks inspired Osamu Tezuka, Spielberg, Lucas, Robert Crumb, several games, cartoons and others.
Those comics in money terms don't bring in as much as merchandising verticals for other businesses do. If they haven't shut those comics down, they would not shut Marvel Comics.
This is literally coming from the salty doofus from CosmicBookNews, who got it from parasitic incompetent Jude Terror, who made it up because that's all he's capable of doing, to the point that now Joe Quesada has had to outright state that a panel is literally just a panel.
I don't blind date I make the direct market vibrate
I think the funniest part of these speculative articles is the idea that apparently, the company believes that the way to save Marvel Comics from “irrelevance” is to have Quesada and Cebulski (two of the most boring people in editorial) host a panel at SXSW.

Remember, everyone! The comics industry is dying, the direct market is going to implode, and Tom Brevoort is going to turn into Kung Lao and chop off all our heads by throwing his hat! Excelsior!

>Marvel is the top-selling comic publisher every month for well over a year.
>Marvel is going to shut down cuz they're failing
Lol sure
