Default Most Disastrous movie going experience?

On a stinking hot afternoon in late February 1991 my older sister and I went into the city and saw Predator 2 . I had seen the movie a couple of times and was taking delight in seeing my sister cover her eyes at the sight and sound of the predator. Ten minutes into the movie the film was stopped and the audience was told to evacuate the theatre. The police briefly questioned me as I was leaving about a large bag I left with the staff at the box office. Apparently the theatre had received bomb threats from some idiot...

A few months later we saw Awakenings at an old suburban movie theatre. In the big scene where the patients wake up from their comas the focus was blurry! Does that still happen with digital cinema?

Have YOU had worse incidents than this?

I think Highlander 2 qualifies. I sat through it and, like thousands of other people across the country who thought of the same thing, I was calling it "The Sickening" before it was even over.

Hmm, the first time I saw "Star Wars" was about a month after it was released. When Kenobi appeared on-screen, some kid in the audience, apparently trying to impress his younger brother, said right out loud, "He dies before the end of the movie". You could hear the collective groan sweep the theater. Then the kid kept running his mouth and was probably about to give something else away. Thankfully, a guy sitting behind him said, "Hey kid, we don't need a narrator. You've already ruined the movie enough." The kid then slid down in his seat and basically hid for the rest of the movie.

While watching The Mask of Zorro, literally just before the climax of the movie, the film apparently caught fire and burned in the projector. The manager had to come in and apologize and give everybody passes to see another movie for free. I've still never seen the end of that movie.

Couples retreat. The aspect ration on the screen was off and everyone looked like Oompa Loompas. The Theater never was able to fix it and just let the movie play and gave a free ticket for another time. 3rd time I saw Black Panther in theaters it kept freezing. I watched the first 15mins 4 times before they turned the lights on said it wasnt gonna happen.

    For me?

Scooby Doo, I accidentally spilled my drink on the seat, and we had terrible seats to the side. I had to sit on the arm rest.

Saw two parts of a trilogy of documentaries on life of a family in the slums of Jakarta, Indonesia- saw it in a small theatre in Amsterdam. Was in the front row, had to look up at the screen, caused tremendous strain on my neck. Gruelingly uncomfortable. Didn't care for the films themselves either.

Saw a romantic comedy in a theatre, about two autistic people (was interested as I myself am autistic), the DVD started freezing neae the end and they couldn't fix it. Again, didn't like the movie either.

During Aquaman symptoms for a particular bad cold hit me all at once, sore throat, runny nose, the works. The worst bit was my hearing could barely understand what was said underwater underwater dialogue. Whole experience probably skewed my opinion of the movie, I really should rewatch it.

There was nothing wrong with my hearing and I couldn't understand a lot of the underwater dialogue either.

Avengers Infinity War: Some kid had a birthday and brought his whole group into the theater and not only made a ruckus but he and his friends tried to rob us of our wallets and purses. After turning around and loudly telling him and his friends to shut their mouths so we could see the movie in peace, his dad came up to me after the showing. No he wasn't there watching his kid BTW. He tried to give me **** for it but I just wasn't having it. As far as I was concerned you don't be an ass hat in the theater and expect me to just take it. Handle your kids or don't.

The Force Awakens or Rogue One (I can't remember): So we exit the theater and everybody is happy. However police start moving through the theater and escorting people out and our mood shifted as fast as Rey could learn the force. We're all very confused but we quickly find out why they are doing this. A group of people dressed as Elves had managed to force themselves into the building and had been forcibly trying to get people to take Jesus pamphlets and loudly singing carols at people. While they didn't enter our theater they did manage to get into a few of them disrupting the movie to get people to go to church. So whether it was the owner or manager (I have no idea), they gave every person in that building coming out of showings a free movie ticket. Yes, every single one. Not a horrible experience, but one of the weirdest experiences I've had.

Honestly, that's probably why the theater has assigned seating and higher security now.

I tried to watch the 3D showing of Avatar, and after the first 15 minutes I had such a headache I had to take the glasses off and watch the color-blurred movie without them. I've never gone to a 3D showing again since then.

Not sure it counts as worst but one time the curtain stuck and no one was doing anything about it. So I got up and moved the curtain. Everyone applauded me and the intercom even thanked me.

    Batman Forever.

    The projector caught fire.

They issued us new tickets to go see the same movie or another one.

We saw different one when the projector got fixed.

    It was a sign ...

My parents took me to see Armageddon when it first came out. I was really, really little at the time and the climax on the asteroid was far to intense for me with the loud noises. Honestly I was several years too young to see it in general, and in the theater I felt vibrations from the noise and was frightened.

More recently I took my grandmother to see a few movies she was interested in, and because she couldn't see and her hearing was terrible I was basically narrating the whole movie to her each time. My grandmother enjoyed that immensely ... the people sitting around us did not, but most people understood why the little old lady needed the narration.
