Even among people who are not comic fans though, it's hard to believe that they would believe T'Challa would really be permanently killed off.

But, judging by the reactions of most of the audience, there was little reaction to Spider-Man or T'Challa disintegrating. It was more like an annoyance that they might not prominently be parts of "Endgame" but only be brought back at the end of it.

The real reactions were to Loki being killed and Stark getting stabbed. People have heard the rumors that Stark may die by Endgame and thought maybe the surprise would be that they were doing it in IW. Of course, supposedly Loki is getting an online series. So maybe even his death won't be permanent.

I will say I haven't been able to find any sites throwing a fit over killing off T'Challa. Clearly, almost nobody buys it.

He said that was the last time he trusted someone. Implying that was the reason why he doesn’t trust people. On top of that, the scar in The Winter Soldier doesn’t look like a cat scratch.

    That’s because it’s a Flerken scratch.

It's Fury; he says stuff and misleads.

No, it was a scratch of some kind. Besides, it's a minor enough detail that I think we can let it slide.

Er, um, it mutated. Admittedly, that was silly and the weakest part of the movie.

Great movie, great performances, the cinematography and effects are incredible: best cosmic depiction in the MCU yet imo.

Bri was great as Carol. I totally don't see the 'wooden, lifeless performance' some people are seeing, at all. She has personality, warmth, strength, heart and a great sense of humor.

I also don't think there were any heavy-handed messages, Carol was portrayed as a capable, kickass and feminine female hero on par with Ripley, Natasha, Quake etc etc.

After 21 MCU movies (and having read the entire DeConnick run of CM from 2012 to present day) I did manage to call most of the last minute plot 'twists' and little gimmicks.

MCU has a formula that works though, and its only slightly less entertaining for me knowing I'm a bit less surprised than the average viewer (who has not seen all 21 nor read a single comic).

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I liked it better that Black Panther and maybe as much as Infinity War. And most of the controversy and most of the mass triggering this movie inspired turned out to be a bunch of hot air.

I agree. I still maintain that most of the negative reaction to her performance comes from Brie approaching the role as an acting job more than an action-adventure job. Her performance was understated, but ultimately much more powerful, than other A-List Marvel actors who over-acted their roles. She brought an unexpected depth to the role that I can see many people not expecting given the acting jobs we've had in the past. I also will be very interested to see how her style melds with an ensemble movie in Endgame. I suspect she will pull it off well.

To be clear, I'm not saying the other A-List actors did their jobs poorly, just differently (and likely they were in most cases directed to do it that way - though I think there are a couple of instances where the actor is genuinely not capable of delivering more.

And I'm about to put on my tin foil hat, so just bear with me, but I feel like an entire subplot was edited out of the movie. There were several scenes and vocals in the trailer that didn't appear in the movie. They briefly touched upon Carol's struggle to become a fighter pilot in a time that didn't let women fly and never developed it. This may sound crazy but I think there may was a subplot made up of scenes in her past showing her journey to become a fighter pilot that climaxed with her flying that mission with Mar-Vel but they cut it out because of the complaints about feminism.

    Am I just nuts??
Well there is this quote from Kevin Feige.

Well that was something as we were developing the script and queuing off of the comics as always, it never even occurred to have a love interest. That’s not what the movie was about. It was about Carol finding herself and growing and making mistakes and being bolstered up by her female mentors and female friends. And that relationship with Maria was very important.

Sounds like her relationship with Mar-Vell was suppose to be explored. Which makes sense since Marv-Vell was said to be the person Carol most admired.

Speaking as someone who thinks the least appealing thing that can be done in a superhero movie is to give the character an origin story, I dug this movie. It was like a reverse origin story. Vers already had the powers, costume, and was fighting for the glory of the Kree Empire, but she needed to discover who Carol Danvers was, and that synthesis created Captain Marvel.

I liked Fury as well, I'm glad he got to do so much and yet was still a little green to the spy game (could've lightened up on fawning over the cat, thought that was a bit much). Talos was my favorite character, and I liked how you can tell he was a good guy in his earlier scenes (if I'm not mistaken, he purposely didn't load the gun or had the safety on when fighting Fury).

The soundtrack was a disappointment, though. It was no Guardians of the Galaxy. Maybe it's just because I lived through the 90's and those songs evoke specific feelings and memories in me, but the only song that I thought was a good fit was "Come As You Are".

Bring on the Kree/Skrull War and more Supreme Intelligence.

After I saw Infinity War, I jokingly said this was why they introduced the original Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of volume 2 and had a "getting the band back together" vibe. That they'd be the stars of the third movie with almost all the previous cast gone.

The Skrull being good guys was kind of a similar stumbling block for me with this movie. Historically the Skrulls are equally rapacious as the Kree. There isn't really a moral side to take in the Kree-Skrull War.
Sorry for to reply so late, but that something I have read alot about the Skrulls portrayal in the movie (movie that I have really loved); not onely from the fans but also from Roy Thomas himself !!! that not really true according the Celestial Madonna saga, it was always the Kree who have been the more agressive and have begun this conflict, the movie have respected this aspect of the Kree/Skrull relation:

    https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Kree/Expanded_History

"A million years ago,[5] a race of humanoid reptiles called the Skrulls came upon prehistoric Hala. At that time the Skrulls were a largely peaceful space-faring race, and they set about educating the natives to the point where they could join their trading empire. However, Hala was home to two equally intelligent races, the Kree and the Cotati.[6]

The Skrulls proposed a test to determine the worthier race between the Kree and the Cotati. Taking members of both races to a distant planetoid in another galaxy, the Blue Area of the Earth's Moon, the Skrulls created an arena and bid the two races to use the resources they had to create something of worth. The Skrulls then left. The Kree constructed a magnificent city known as the Blue City, while the Cotati created a beautiful garden.[6]

A year later the Skrulls returned to judge the two races and found the Cotati's accomplishment the worthier. Enraged, the Kree killed the Skrulls and the Cotati and seized the Skrulls' star-ship. They used the ship to return to their native planet, then set about deciphering the technology of the star-ship.[6] "

Within a hundred years of acquiring interstellar technology from the Skrulls, the Kree empire began to spread throughout the Greater Magellanic Cloud.[6]
    Kree-Skrull War

The Kree launched an attack upon the Skrull Empire and the peaceful Skrulls were again forced to become warlike to defend themselves. The Kree-Skrull War would continue for hundreds of thousands of years.[6]

Also Talos himself have said he have blood in his hands, it's not like the Skrulls have been presented like angels, but more like the losers and the victims of this war.

Came across this prequel comic that goes in-depth into Carol’s Kree life.

    https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/02...spin-off-book/

    Found this interesting.

    10. Att-Lass ( Algenis Perez Soto) is her “brother”: Stealth infiltration specialist his weapons are twin pistols. “We’ve developed a strong bond and are almost like brother and sister.” Her so called “brother” is the Infiltration specialist ? I think there’s a pattern brewing here. He’s a Kree top military spy. Will he be simmed?
He was the Kree that tried to plea with Carol.

Missed that one. They did a few others, including that "Prelude comic," a YA novel about Carol's time in the air force academy (showing how she met and bonded with Maria Rambau and how they got the test pilot job), and and younger YA novel about Carol's first Starforce mission under the "Vers" name.

Man, these kind of details should have been in the movie.
