I think the target audience is comic fans who don't take their comics too seriously. I enjoyed this quite a bit. It's like a crazy soap opera.

To be fair, we don't know the circumstances of this alleged union or whether it even legitimately happened. Someone pointed out that detail that Xavier is chair-bound. Might be significant.

I'm sure that if we had message boards back in the day, we'd hear all kinds of "This writer is a HACK" over stuff that we most certainly accept and praise today: Storm's mohawk, Rogue's membership, Kitty's "marriage" to Caliban, any and all resurrections and deaths, Longshot's sex appeal, etc etc.

If you check out the Uncanny X-Men vol.2 Omnibus, it includes a letter from a young Kurt Busiek bemoaning how bad "The Dark Phoenix Saga" is and how it's a new low point for the series.

Pointing right through the panel with that 'never really lost my cool before' trembling rage/hurt and saying...'nope, I'm not taking this one, nope this Hell isn't because of MY sins...is this some sort of Faustian joke? My best friend is loving the current Bendis run and it's precisely because he's more of a casual fan and doesn't have a degree in all things X. I think it's also important to remember that many hardcore fans disagree strongly in their opinions of previous runs. While I have read many posts on here praising Morrison's run (rightly so, IMO), many hardcore X-fans hated it as well. The only two X-Men creative runs which seem to be consistently held in high regard by the vast majority of X-fans are the first half of the original Claremont run and Whedon's Astonishing.

I'm looking through this issue and trying to pay attention to the wheelchair Charles is sitting in. When is that particular wheelchair from? Is it pre-Muir Island Saga?

I never religiously read Avengers until Disassembled was happening then I started picking up New Avengers. I LOVED it, but I remember a lot of Avengers fans hated what was going on & I couldn't understand why. I'm at the point of understanding now that its the X-Men he's dealing with. I'm not of the "omg ick, ugh, barf" opinion with Bendis on the books, but I'm not enjoying his X-stint as much as I enjoyed his Avengers stint. And I think, as others have pointed out, it's because I didn't have that history with the Avengers that I have with the X-Men so the changes & any OOC moments didn't juimp out at me like they do now. I think Bendis has some fairly interesting things brewing here & there, but the pacing & execution has been so hit-and-miss.

I did really like Anka's art this issue though, I thought it was a great bump up in quality from Bachalo. Dazzler re-design is still an eye sore though. I was amused that NONE of the X-Men gave-in to her teenage-esque coping skills by even mentioning her drastic change in look lol
