I may have misspoke about it being illegal as it certain can change from state to state and so on however the codes of conduct these conventions uphold are almost universal. Any major convention is going to have rules that say you cannot take pictures of minors no matter what and you have to ask for permission. Conventions are a hotbed of potential lawsuits so they are strict in matters like this. Even if such an incident takes place outside of the convention grounds these institutions can and have enforced their code.
As bert said, check the back of the ticket you purchase to pretty much any event. It says that you are giving permission to be photographed at their event in case they want to use the pictures.

Where did you get those imaginary laws from? A statue like that would be toern to shreds by the courts, there is too much precdent to say otherwise.

The convention was legally a public space, unless posted otherwise. and ther is no law against taking pictures of anyone in a public space no matter what age.

I looked online to see if I could find their code of conduct and I really could not find anything other than Comic-con has a terrible policies in regards to such issues...Anyway I would have to see the language in question because from what you wrote it sounds like the 'they' are the people who host the convention itself which is perfectly legal and is bought of the rules you agreed to comply to by admitting yourself.

The problem is when an attendee takes a picture of another person without their permission or if they are underage. This usually violates the rules of entry you agreed to by default by showing up and even the law itself. Public space is just another word for 'government space.' it really only applies to parks, streets and government property in general (with some obvious exceptions). The volume of attendees does not make Comic-con a any less private.

People far to often think that rights are applicable to everything when in reality they are an agreement between you and the government. This is why CBR can ban someone for their speech and crying 'freedom of speech!' will not get you anywhere.

Small correction: Her FB page lists her as 20, or it did when I checked it. However, that's still puts her over the age of consent in every US state. Not that it would apply if she were under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but that's its own issue.

Stop, please, for your own sake. I am not trying to be Internet snarky here but you really, really don't know what you're talking about. At all.

Or, you could read the article, where it says:

A 29-year-old man, Justin Kalior, whom the girl got into a fight with before her fall, was arrested on unrelated allegations of having sexual contact with a minor and providing her alcohol.

Well if anything I am guilty of applying my own countries laws and convention rules to broadly. I tried to find there exact ruling for this event, but the people at comic-con seem to be more interested in ensuring you do not bring recording devices into screenings than ensuring harassment does not continue.

    LOL @ Pinsir.

You can take non nude/pornographic photographs of anyone as long as either they, or their guardians give consent. Public or private, it does not matter.

How in god's green earth have you ever explained to yourself when you saw pictures of children cosplayers online? I hope you weren't reporting the pictures as illegal activities. XD "Who was the pervert who took a pic of that pink stormtrooper child?!??!?"

I already admitted I am live in a different country and my error was applying my countries laws to the US. I have taken courses in photography and am familiar with the convention guidelines of my country. From what I know of US privacy rights I assumed it more or less match up with another Common Law country. I fully admit my error. In the US you can photograph children regardless of permission by their parents.

I'm a little concerned that you think that only "lefties" would care about something like this. Which from my experience is not true. Anyway, I hope this gets settled properly and the girl and guy (if innocent) will be ok.

I think he's trying to say that only "lefties" care about stuff like sexual assault and violence against women.

It doesn't explain any of my questions.
she had been in a relationship with the man they arrested. He had a "break up text" on his phone still. . so obviously she was hanging out with him to get into the party where she got alcohol beverages.

so they are charging him with statutory rape based on the evidence of their prior relationship (as she's underage), as well as corruption of a minor, as he admitted taking her to the Con party where there was alcohol.

If you travel, the smart thing to do is NOT to flash your money around when off resort. That is just incredibly stupid!!!! You are free to do so and its your rights and all that bs but if you get robbed, it could have been prevented. Does not mean its your fault, but lets do a reality check. Some people will take advantage of others in certain situations, so you need to be pro active.

    Same with this cosplay

    she wasn't assaulted, or harassed.

Unless the fence kicked her off because it didn't like being climbed by someone dressed as Roger Rabbit.
