    Default Comics - A MUST For Every Collector

    So I just re-cataloged my collection to try and downsize. I ended up with two extra shelves of empty space (every collector's weakness ).

    While I should be happy with the free space and use it for future releases, I got to thinking about some popular titles I never bothered to collect.

    Specifically Sandman & Watchmen. Due to the fact that they usually appear on every "best of" list, I figured I should own them.

    Are these two titles essential & a must for every comic enthusiast's collection? Are there other titles out there that people feel should be in everyone's collection?

    Now obviously people have their own preferences & opinions. But I think we can agree some of these titles have reached entirely different levels of success and notoriety that breakthrough the limited world of comics and into the mainstream.

    What do others think?

    Sandman and Watchmen are both shelf-worthy & should be in everyone's collection. Along with MAUS from art spiegelman.

    If not owning them but at least give them a shot? I think there are plenty of people who dislike Watchmen or Sandman because it's just not what they are looking for in their entertainment. So I don't think everyone should own them but at least give them a read in whatever format is the most convenient for you.

    Another vote for Sandman here.

    They're currently re-releasing the 30th Anniversary trades, so those are readily available. If you're feeling more ambitious, you can track down the 5 Absolutes, which are top-notch.

    Wow! What a list. Out of those I already own Daredevil & Saga. Sandman & Wicked + Divine are inbound. And I plan on picking up the Absolute Swamp Thing later in the year.

    I guess that depends on why and how you collect.
    If you collect what other people find good or what you like.

    Sandman would never find its way into my collection as I don’t like it... at all.

    Collecting all of Sandman & Wicked + Divine will be stretched out over the next few months. Have to budget

    Own both Y: The Last Man & Fables. Love them both!

    Definitely what I like. However, I felt like I was missing some obvious choices...I'm pretty boring and usually like what the masses do haha.

    How could I have forgotten Fables ??
    Indeed Y: The Last Man Daytripper and Chew are good. But should they be on everyone's shelves ?

    As for Watchmen, I don't see what so many people see in it. Alan Moore has done better. Superhero comics, there are tons that are better. Yes historically it was very modern and new for its time. Sure it's got a movie, it doesn't mean it's good. And other Moore's books got movies/series before that.

    What about Hellboy?

    Another one I was interested in, but jumping into that seems like a never ending journey.

    Honestly I wanted to start it also, now that they have just published the paperback omnibuses.
    I read the 1st one and got really really disapointed.

    My must haves:
    * Daredevil by Frank Miller & Klaus Janson
    * Uncanny X-Men by Claremont Omnibus volumes 1-3
    * Spider-Man by Roger Stern
    * Captain America by Mark Gruenwald #307-350
    * Captain America by Ed Brubaker Omnibus volumes 1-3
    * Thunderbolts by Warren Ellis & Mike Deodato (available as a paperback Ultimate Collection)
    * Daredevil by Bendis & Maleev
    * Daredevil by Brubaker & Lark
    * Superior Foes of Spider-Man
    * New Avengers volume 1 + Secret Invasion + Siege
    * Amazing Spider-Man: Big Time
    * Superior Spider-Man

    I guess the last three probably wouldn't be for "every" collector, but they are must haves for me. I recently read Iron Man from #115-250 and really liked it, though I need to think more about which parts are essential.
    I wrote a program that automatically sends emails when new Marvel titles are added on the hachette site. If you'd like to be added to the mailing list, just send an email to marvelcollectionsnews@gmail.com letting me know.
